Mahle gold pistons for boost on h22a, your opinions?
I had my mind set on these but ive been researching and some people have good things to say and a lot people say these pistons are a failure. however its the only way you can go without sleeving so what do y'all think?
sleeve and run the turbo tuff rods they make. there are a few of use iowa preluders that are currently running that.
Stock h22 blocks (depending on deck maybe) can handle 400hp easy, its been proved and there are people that do it. Ill be using eagle rods either way but these pistons im just not sure about. If i have to end up sleeving ill use cp pistons with eagles. I just need to figure out these pistons
I say go for it. Mahle gold pistons were designed to be used in FRM sleeves in our H-series engines. In the FI Mahle thread, there are a lot of people that are running these without any problems and some are pushing more than 16 psi on there t3/t4 based turbos. I personally would not push more than 18-20 psi on a t3/t4 60-Series on Mahle gold pistons. Anything more out of that turbo and I would recommend sleeving the block. Make sure the honing process is done within spec, then you should have no worries about Mahle gold pistons in your H-series engine ( no extreme boost ofcourse. )
i think its all about the honing now, getting the correct skirt to wall / p2w clearance the more i check it out. The problem is people getting scratches in the bore and the skirts. Ill be using a 60-1 or holset hx35, and shoot for 400hp. I already have some s2 turbo 1 cams in my room, just need to get some valve springs.
