Hey everyone. First, thanks for taking the time to view and/or reply. I recently completed a new in-dash CD player install. The system works beautifully, but now I have another problem: the cigarette lighter socket does not work and the clock light (the original Honda clock located at the top of the dash) has no light. The clock works fine but no light.

I'd say I'm intermediate when it comes to installs. I've done 10-12 of them over the last few years successfully. I know the in's and out's of making electrical connections and so on. I've already checked the fuses and everything looks fine. Any suggestions?

Should I check voltage on any wires? I wouldn't know where to begin. . .there are so many leaving the fuse box! Could these two problems be unrelated? Hmmm. . .I don't know. Thanks for any advice. -Tripp

 

I presumed that every plug was connected back to where it was before. That's what happens to mine.

 

You mean there were a few that you forgot to plug in or that you plugged a few things into the wrong places?

 

any aftermarket radio will cause the clock light to no longer light up. i forgot what wires you have to connect to make it work again.

the cig lighter you either forgot to reconnect it or the fuse blew.

 

You checked the fuses in BOTH fuse boxes how?? Visually?
Do it with a test light, or a multimeter.

OK. I'm pretty sure I can locate the fuse box under the hood. Didn't check that one. I do have a multimeter. Which setting should I put it on (there are about a dozen. . .several for DC, several for AC, and a few others) and what am I looking for when I check it? Thanks.

 

0-20v DC
Ground the black lead from the multimeter to the vehicle body (metal) and use the red lead as a probe.
You should be "seeing" 12v +- on both sides of the fuse (both power (feed) and circuit sides). You're confirming that power is available on the output side of the fuse.
If you've got power on just one side, the fuse has gone to meet it's maker

Op can you list what model car it is? If you did not tape up the illumination wire on the harness you could of blew the fuse under the hood or dash.

Set your multi-meter up to dc, Your car is dc-direct current. So thats a easy one. Ground the neg lead of the dvm to chassie or battery and turn the car on. Check both sides of the fuse for 12 volts. If you do not get a reading on both sides pull the fuse and check it. Because some circuits needs to be on to get a reading ie-wipers, and such.

 

OK. I will check the voltage. The car is a 1998 Honda Accord LX.

 

Update:
OK, I checked power from several different places and I basically discovered that, by having to use a wiring harness different from the factory one that originally came with the Honda, a few of the wires must have been cut from a previous install.

One of these cut wires belongs to the cigarette lighter. . .it runs from the lighter to where I found it in the dash (cut off). It MUST have been receiving power from SOMEWHERE, but I don't see another matching wire (from the cut) that runs over to the fuse box, otherwise I could obviously reattach them and problem solved.

Something else interesting is that I found that (cigarette lighter) wire on the FUSE BOX side, but there's no power there.

SO RECAP: I see the wire in the fuse box, I see the same wire at the cigarette lighter, so there SHOULD be two of those same-colored wires in the dash where the wire was cut, but there's only one. Ideas?

For now, I'm going to piggyback off of the radio's 12v ignition power. Hopefully that won't overload anything.

 

Hello, I'm new to the forum and can't start my own thread so I have hijacked your thread as I have a similar problem.

I have 2000 Honda Accord and haven't had any problems whatsoever until about 1 month ago when my radio lost power and then my turn signals stopped working. I believe something shorted out in the cigarette lighter, as I have my plug n play sirius radio working off the cigarette lighter power source. I did the normal stuff of checking fuses, checking for ground, etc. I check the cigarette lighter for voltage and I get nothing. Apparently, on the 2000 Accord the voltage to the cigarette lighter comes off the plug to power the radio and I don't get 12v or any voltage to either of those plugs. I was thinking I had a short in the wire somewhere, but I can seem to locate it. Can anyone give me any suggestions on where might I look?

 

having the SAME DAMN PROBLEM!!! my 12V wire from my wire harness in the car reads 0V and no power in my 12V plug (like a cigarette lighter). i have a 2000 honda accord V6 with an after market deck, a 1050W amp, and 2 12" 2400W subs... i feel like my subs pushed something too hard. i know that the deck is fine its just that my wire harness is receiving no power, along with my 12V, but the rest of my dash such as the E light and air conditioning is... PLEASE HELP!!

 

Did you try the fuse boxes? You have a fuse box on the driver's side and the passenger side. I had the cigarette lighter fuse out on the passenger's side and once I replaced it, VIOLA! everything worked! I hope this helps. Good luck
