Default Broke key on EX

Hey my 2003 accord key broke on my ex. Dealer says is 160 for the key and then $84 to configure the unlock/lock alarm. can this be done at a locksmith or does it have to be by the dealer?

$160 for the key?! That's high as hell. Most of the newer programmable keys [non T5] are like $75 and then whatever the hourly rate is to program the key. It has to be done at the dealership.

I know nothing has changed. There were two keys for the car. Mother' car so father had the back up key. One was warped and then fell out but taped the key back into the black alarm/fob thing. Finally broke all the way last week. Price quoted two years ago is same the same. $160 + $84 dollars to program. I wonder if still having the key will help since it wasn't lost?(I will call and update).

Just called another dealer and this was the price the quoted me. $75 for key and $50 for programming. That is a whole lot less.

No matter what they'll still have to program the new key. If it is the only key for the vehicle you have I highly recommend you getting another one. It'll cost way less for a new key, then if you were to lose all keys for the vehicle.

I was always going to the dealer to get it fixed. Just wanted to know why so many dealers had it at different prices. Got it done for $140 dollars. Which is fine I guess. So now I have two keys with the alarm. ANd the broken one which my father actually managed to glue back together. It doesn't have the alarm because they saw the state of the key and said keep it and I think just set a new code for the new one and the original one that wasn't broken. Not bad. I was very happy Since that was less than the $215 quoted at two dealers and $245 quoted at another dealer. THanks guys.
Look out for my next question. lol.
