What would you think an intake air temp sensor does?
Yeah, I know you said no smart remarks ... but if you ask a stupid question, ....

The intake air temperature is used to determine air density, so as to be able to add the right amouunt of fuel for the particular circumstances.

again thank you for your great help.
are you absolutely , 100% sure that this will cause me to not get enough of the right mix because it wont sense the temp in the intake manifold?
please dont guess and if you could back it up with where you found this and maybe something i could look at to see for myself.
im not saying you dont know what your tlaking about , but i want to hear more, becuase mine has been off for 4 days now and the car feels better than ever.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be an *** ... but you left yourself open for some sarcasm in the initial post.

But, more to the point.
Honda wouldn't have put it there if it wasn't needed.
Apparently you now have a CEL, so something is up (at least it knows you've disconnected this sensor).
It's been really hot out so maybe it doesn't make much of a difference since the default setting (due to the missing sensor) is probably good for the present weather conditions.
And, ... I used to work on engine control systems in my job at the office. Ed

Ummm, one last thing I just thought of.
Be careful because you might be running pretty lean ....

the cell i dont care abotu mines has been on for almost 2yrs now . i thought it might be an emissions thing , in which case i dont care about as long as it doesnt hinder the affects on my car. and yes honda does make many sensors in their cars that are not needed.
also another point , if its is needed soo much , why have i never seen and aftermarket intake mainfold with one yet?

If you've been driving around with your CEL on for 2 years, how can you be sure you're not having other engine problems that's you're just not aware of? Of all conditions that will trip a CEL, the o2 sensor would be among the least of your worries.

if your car has a problem and you need a cell to tell you , you dont belong modding cars.
i know when something is fishy and then go and chec the codes to see if its anything that i need to fix or if its just emissions crap , and then ill check all aspects of the car from there. i dont rely on themto tell me anything really, they will come on for the stupidest things. . . i have had it come on for my gas cap not being clicked the set amount of times already.

Ed's initial comment may have been a little off-the-cuff, but it seemed in good humor and, frankly, an appropriate response to your question. I'm the only other one to post a reply, and all I did was express concern that having your CEL on 24/7 is not a good idea because then you wouldn't be aware of other problems. Somehow, you confused my honest concern for your car's well-being with an attempt to "**** you off." Your thankless attitude isn't going to get you very far with guys like Zyg and Soup, who are good people to know if you have questions about your car.

It is unfortunate that you believe that you can detect and/or diagnose every potential problem with your car without the aid of a CEL. I see expensive repairs in your future.

I've got an aftermarket intake manifold and it uses the IAT sensor. I imagine that people who use some aftermarket manifolds put the IAT sesor in the intake piping instead. As long as it's in the airstream (after the boost source for boosted cars), it'll read fine.

It's a big part of the equation that the ECU uses to determine load. Without it the ECU should run rich as a safety prcaution, real rich.

Yes you need it.
