Default Stripping and re-painting Rays extended lug nuts

I just picked up a set of Rays extended lug nuts for 35 bucks. They are red, and are still pretty clean. Obviously a little faded which is normal for the Rays lugs.

I wanted to repaint them purple.. What process would you guys reccomend for stripping off the original red annodized paint? And, what's a good paint to use that will last?

Thanks.

Due to them being lug nuts, i wouldnt be too worried about the finish being perfect without orange peal, etc.

I would look into the following:

Have them media blasted
Red scotch bright them
Sealer
Base
Clear

I would powder coat them for a longer lasting durable finish

How much would that cost to have them powder coated? Is there any way to get them back to the original color? Or close..

The lugs are anodized from the factory, so you can't just strip it off. the color is actually IN the top layers of the metal. Just get them powdercoated if you really want new ones.

The downside to that, though, is by the time you're done, you've spent enough to just buy some in the color you want...

^ Good info. That's what I thought, I just wanted to make sure.

I'll probably just leave them as they are, not worth getting them coated.

have them re-anodized. they can strip the old anodize off, its not an issue. They can also do them any color you would like. Just find a smaller place that wont charge you a minimum fee, or if you're not in a hurry, have them hold onto them until they're doing something else in the same color.

they might be able to do a "hard coat" that will last longer but I am not sure what colors they can do in hard coat anodizing ... I had my paintball gun done in a green a few years back and they only charged me $20

hi, i just called some local anodizing places in my area and one of them who is also a car enthusiasts said NOT to re-anodize RAYS lugs. He says that they're anodized on the outside before they're plated. He says that if you were to reanodize them, there is a high tendency that the plating will MELT. No another anodizer has told me this, but he has done it first hand on his own set of RAYS and that was the outcome

user beware!

Has anyone tried using the oven cleaner to take the paint off? Id rather have my lugs silver/chrome than pink. It'll match the satin/polished look i want when I'm done.
