Improving throttle response
I've noticed recently that when I step on the gas to rev a little bit, it takes a split second to rev - the throttle response is not very crisp. Kinda dips first, then revs.
In my Mazdaspeed Protege, the throttle is much more responsive. I just replaced the throttle cable in my CRX and adjusted it so that it looks plenty tight so I don't think that would help.
The car has over 175k on the clock, so should I look into replacing various items, such as O2 sensor, distributor (cap and rotor)? Which of these would make a significant difference?
How about other stuff, like injector cleaner and/or Seafoam, or a light water mist into the intake (mentioned by other members as "steam-cleaning" the engine...)? What do you think would help the most?
My only engine mod is an AEM CAI.
Any advice is helpful, thanks a bunch!

Dang, you weren't kidding!
So have you guys tried out the steam cleaning method? I'm curious to how it worked out for you.

Steam cleaning method works great. Put it this way, steam is over 550 degree's, it takes carbon off faster then bob dole falling off the stage. We use to do it in high school in autoshop to clean motors before we pulled them but we'd do it alot. I dont know about doing it THEN keep driving the car cause i mean it pulls the carbon off but think of this, if that corbon doesnt come out of the exhaust ports, then its like u have a piece os steele floating in ur motor. Thats why we did it before we pulled a head off or something but yes it works and it just depends on how much carbon u got.
Most older cars got it alot worse then now days so id say itd be ok to do. AS FOR THE TOPIC, a 60-64mm throttle body, 9lb flywheel, some headers, 2 1/4 inch pipe should take care of throttle response( a tune up is no matter what you decide, cap, plugs, wires, rotor.) Actually ur threottle respone would be thru the roof. OH and a crank pulley god DAMN that makes a hugfe difference we did it to a neon it was crazy. so ur looking...about 1200 for all that plus be alot faster too. that flywheel will make a huge difference.
