Default **NEED HELP FAST** Transmission Rebuild!

Ok here's my story. I have a 2006 Si that the 2nd gear is completely out of and 3rd gear grinds. I'm on 44,000 and it's still covered under powertrain warranty but the dealership is saying that it looks like it will be abnormal wear and prolly won't be covered. Another thing is that my ex-wife has had it for the past year and they say it would help if i had documentation of getting the tranny serviced at 30,000 which i'm pretty sure she didn't do that. Well of course they're saying it's gonna be like $1,700 to rebuild or somethin like that and it'll be $900 for parts. Well i found parts online for $450 and i'm prolly gonna do it myself. My problem is that i haven't seen a manual for our cars and i need some info on rebuilding it like torque specs and maybe just some general tips on taking it apart. I am a qualified mechanic, i've been one for 6 years and have ASE certs, i pulled teh tranny out of my EG in a shed and rebuilt it and had it back in in bout 8 hours. I would just like some kind of guidance so i don't get surprised by any special things u need to do. Oh and BTW i'm deploying in 2 weeks and want to get the car sellable before i go, thats what the big rush is. Thank you.

take it in for the 3rd gear fix and see how much they charge to change the 2nd gear. shouldnt be much due to them already having to open her up.

yea it has you just have too look for the 6 speed there is no that much different between the 5 an 6 i think is kind of easy doing this kind of if you have the right tools
you just buy the 3 gear kit and just swapped and you'll be fine i have done like 3 cars already and be careful with shim that goes in the case there is 2 make sure that u don't mixed one is different then that other one but any ways good luck with the job

i'd go to a different dealer before throwing away money doing it yourself. there's a law out there that says that a dealer can't void the warranty just because you didn't do maintenance there (forgot what the law is called but it's been posted on h-t a few times). you have a warranty; use it.

It's the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. To be covered by the law, the service actually has to be performed. The law only states that a warranty claim cannot be denied based on whomever performs the service. It does not grant you freedom to skip services.

If the original poster has no proof that the 30,000-mile transmission fluid change or other service was performed, he'll probably be SOL. It's somewhat amusing when people skip a $45 service only to end up with hundreds or thousands of dollars in repair bills later on . . .

Anyways, as mentioned, try a different dealership. Most will tell you right off the bat that it may not be covered just to cover their butts in case Honda corporate decides to deny the claim. That way, the dealer isn't stuck with the bill for tearing down a transmission.

If that doesn't work, buy yourself a factory service manual from Helm, Inc. here. All torque specifications and disassembly procedures are outlined in heavy detail.
