Color Matching Carbon Fiber, Prep Questions
My ebay special carbon fiber hood has taken a beating thanks to the Florida sunshine, Decided I want to color match it to the car.
Is there a certain way to prep the hood? The actual weave has began to surface through the faded clear coat, and I was worried about getting the paint to stick.
Thanks

I would be more worried about the weave starting to show then paint sticking to it. I'm not sure if you can get it re coated or just put on a heavy coat of primer and block it out.
Scuff it with 400, do a few thick coats of a epoxy primer, block it. see how it turns out.
Than spray your base coat and clear. It will stick but it might not look smooth, might look a bit choppy. But still will match.

If you are going to color match then just add a layer of putty on it to smooth it out instead of trying to build it up with primer. Should be able to cover the area where the resin has worn away. High build primer will sink into the weave after a while and show up under paint.
Spray it with UPOL High Build Primer-Filler. Its expensive buts its like spraying liquid fiberglass. Dries white and is rock hard. It will fill anything trust me, they use it for hail damage.

Notice term "ebay special" and hell...its not like the economy is shitty or anythin lmao. And as far as filling it, you're not supposed to use fillers on panels that are opened and closed constantly. But if you just want a quick fix to save some $$$ then go for it!
