Default street slicks for ls/vtec w/ls tranny

im looking for a tire that hooks as best as possible with alittle over 500whp and an ls tranny. i was looking at the m/h 235/60/14 and then i looked at the gear calculator on mfactory and it says 4th gear will do 156mph at 8500rpm. Is that accurate to say? i wont be ever taking it that fast on the street. To me with that gearing, it seems the tire might be to tall maybe? I want a tire that makes my 4th gear top out at a little over 140mph or so.

The problem is that you have the LS tranny. That is a great tire, but um yeah....you have an LS tranny. Any option to change the tranny?

also i was looking at the bfg 215/60/14's. that would put me at the mph i want in 4th. right now i have vx wheels with new 215/50/13's and it spins till 130+mph. will any drag radial really help me that much on the street? I have a set of lenso's for the track, just looking for a better street tire.

I'm in the same boat. running right at 500whp but kseries. I tried falken rt615's= no traction at all...bfg's=no traction until top of third gear. third gear pull on highway just breaks them loose. I was looking into MT street radials but they were on backorder or something like that for a while. I'm also wanting to get a good street tire but mine is for 16'' wheel.

M/T 235/60 15 works very good, dead hook on a second gear roll on with 480whp ( just need to warm them up first ). Try too get a GSR or Type R gearset.

You need to put a shorter geared tranny in that thing so you can run a larger tire. The 235/60/14 MH bias ply tire is great with a b16 gear set. If you stick with the LS, you are going to either be stuck in the wrong part of the powerband or be stuck using a smaller tire that will spin like hot cakes.

Thanks colin and jason, steve(na200whp) has the 205/60/14 nitto drag radials, and he said it hooks at the top of second gear on 15 psi I believe on the street. I was looking at the bfg 215/60/14 and with my gearing they put me right where I wana be in every gear. Do you think they will hook good from a third gear roll?

thats what i'm doing. i have a ls tranny and im putting in a gsr 3rd and 4th. obviously my car isnt done yet, so no first hand experience here. but more than likely i'll be going with 235/60/15 for the street and 24.5's for the track. we'll see how it goes
