Erick Aguilar's car
If you look through the new superstreet, you could see Erick Aguilar's car uses a stock GSR intake mani. Everybody on this board recomends getting a Skunk 2 manifold, or anything else other then keeping the stock GSR manifold. I went to Aguilar's website and it said "Intake manifold: modified GSR." Does anybody know what "modifications" he did. If the GSR manifold is good for him, and he's running 10's, then it's good for me.
that **** ain't even close to stock..........
idk if it's just me but seeing that car run a couple times.....14:1 compression and only a 2.0......that car pulls like a bastard...not hating though much props to erick and ere
Did anybody say stock? Did anybody say runners? LOL I will keep my mouth shut, erick has to have some secrets. Its far away from stock except appearance wise.

Yah, what earl said - the fastest FWD in New Zealand (10.3 DC2 B18C turbocharged) used to use this setup for his intake manifold, before he switched to a custom intake manifold. Maybe that's what ERE means by "modified"?
But yeah, with compression ratio that high, one would imagine he'd be using quad's...

vtec killers as well
I remember seeing the Signal Auto car, which was using removed VTEC.
There was no Solenoid, but they had a machined block-off plate.
I could be wrong though...

I thin it's so funny how much speculation revolves around the fastest all motor guys. I have a feeling that's how they like it. I bet only a handful of people really know what's inside that motor. I think it's funny how they use a black valve cover just like my b16a or a gsr. No r valve cover or polish. I guess they are going for the sleeper look. HAHA I love that car !!

The reason he can go through gears like that is they are dogcut....half of the teeth on the gears are missing to make the car go into gear faster...not really using the clutch. Also what Earl said about the manifold is correct, thats how they do it. The entire butterfly system is all hollowed out so its one big chamber.....Mike
I know someone who taked to Eric himself and he said that he has soo much hrs put into that intake manifold that he can't even remember or duplicate it.
email erick and ask
im not sure if erick would let out some info to some 'kid off the street' so to speak...
either way, hybrid's old site had a civic with a GSR that ran 12.70s at LACR(palmdale) way back when... he just removed the butterflies....
orrrr you can buy letholone's 190whp pr3 b16 swap and use his GSR manifold which i believe is near the same as ericks
Are you sure it doesn't have VTEC Killers in it? I was pretty sure that it did and C5_Allmotor even said that. A few of my friends have heard that Erick was runnin them too but that's not what JDM_DOHC_SiR said....
I asked him in person already. And I have heard his car idle. I have heard vtec engage while the car was dynoing. Things may have changed, but it didn't help much because he ran 10.60 at that time.

ive also heard he is just running regular toda cams with a special grind.

I'm Erick's crew chief. I've been the every event for since the start of last year, worked on the car a lot, seen inside every item on the car, worked on the engine and transmission, dyno'd the car a lot, tuned the car, and built some things myself for the car. Just so you know I have some knowledge of the car.
At events the two most common questions are about the intake manifold and camshafts. The intake manifold is GSR (obviously), with a lot of porting work inside, but I would not consider it radical. If you look at it you will not see any connection for a secondary intake butterfly, so draw your own conclusions from that. It flows more than any other intake which has been tested (including the JG and Skunk2). Flow is not everything, so it might be possible to make more power with individuals, but it is not currently worth going down an intake manifold development path when it works so well.
Erick ran Toda non-VTEC cams last year, up until about October. Since then he has used a custom VTEC camshaft from TODA, which he also sells. The non-VTEC TODA cams were made for a road-racing class in Japan where VTEC was banned, and they don't really make power over 8500 rpm. There has not been one camshaft failure on TODA cams, and they make good power, so we're fairly happy with them.
Erick's transmission is standard, with custom ratios. Honestly. It's not dog or anything (but dog cut gears are actually legal). Erick shifts quickly, but the clutch, transmission and engine all need to be built to allow this.
Erick is running this Saturday at Bakersfield, Battle of the Imports. Methanol is legal, and we've finished tuning the engine to run on Methanol. Methanol is horrible stuff and I actually wish it was outlawed from all the events (currently IDRC is the only organisation which has banned Methanol). Expect 10.30s at 130+ mph if the conditions are right. We're predicting the fastest all motor field ever, with 6-8 cars in the 10s, so anything could happen.
