What Mods Do I Do?
I wanna get some more snot out of my 1997 Accord SE 2.2L 4 cylinder automatic. Currently is is bone stock, and it's gutless. I'm considering a cold air intake system, headers, flow-through cat, exhaust (cat back), some type of high output ignition system, plugs, wires, and possibly a turbo if all else fails. Any suggestions would be GREAT!
What do I get that I can "bolt on" to bolster the power? The only time I will replace the engine is if the one that's in it now blows. So it's safe to say that I will NEVER replace the engine.
If I do these bolt on upgrades, will there be a noticable improvement, or am I just "spinning my wheels" (waste of time and money)?

go suspension for the ride and the adjustability, then i say go basic bolt ons such as cai, and exhaust, screw headers, wait till you go turbo and that should set you back for a while. you should also consider a manual tranny swap. if you cant finda tranny i will be selling my 95 f22b1 manual tranny due to upcoming h22 swap. with an automatic, you wont be able to feel the bolt ons as much as a manual, unless its a v6
Not going to swap transmissions. One of the biggest reasons I got this car was because it was automatic. I'm SICK of stick. That's why I ask ... Am I wasting my time with bolt-ons? Will I notice a difference? I can't afford to dump big bucks into this car unless it will make a noted improvement. If you all think that it's a waste of time and money because it's an automatic, then I guess I'll just have to live with it.
hey you can do it will an auto. i am working on mine.. its cool to keep the auto. not everyone can swap engines and trannys.. but i would do the basic bolt ons... it should make some difference.. now your correct bout the turbo. that will make the most improvment. if you really want to go with a turbo. then like mentioned the header is not worth getting nor would a CAI, what i did is get a short ram you can get those cheap.. if you want ill sell you mine for 50 bucks shipped with two filters.. but anyway.. email me if you need any help or ?'s with the auto..

Have you ever considered nos? It's probably the best bang for the buck, you can get a system for around 500 dollars. If you look around you can probably find a used one alot cheaper. Anyways it would be the most dramatic power gain that you will notice, more than all of the bolt-ons put together. You just have to be a little more cautious, with nos, than with just i/h/e.

For the love of baby jesus. It is Nitrous. Not NOS. NOS is the company Nitrous Oxide Systems. They produce fine products such as the auto-destruct n20 plunger as pictured below:
If you would like to get a NITROUS kit, I recommend Zex.
NOT going to install NOS - NOT going to replace a perfectly fine engine - NOT going to replace a perfectly fine transmission - I paid $10,500 for this damn car, if I'm gonna pay THAT much for a car, and then dump another $3k - $5k into it, I would have bought a car for $15,000 that was already "fast" ... I purchased this car mostly comfort and convenience.
FORGET all the other stuff - Plain and simple! Am I wasting my time ONLY getting "bolt-on" stuff for this car?!?!
Even the turbo is a stretch because I would have to upgrade all kinds of other stuff as well ... no? I would ONLY consider that if the bolt-on's are a waste of time and money. I just don't want to shell out $500 - $900 for very little in return (bolt-ons). Now if I can spend $1500 and get a shitload in return (turbo), I would consider that down the road.

Blockhead, dont bother with upgrading the ignition if you are just going to run a CAI, Header, and Exhaust. You will just lighten your wallet.
ok buddy ill try and answer the only question you keep repeating..
Yeah your wasting your time on bolt ons
ill tell you why with a modest price with it
if you do Intake- 125, header- 300, pulley- 150, catback system- 300ish. not sure on that one but anyway youve just put out - 600-900 bucks and got a total if your lucky and are blessed by the import gods a big 25hp gain. and i think that is way off. maybe 17-20.. so is it worth it for 17-20 hp? you tell us.

if you want to go a tiny bit faster, spend a good amount of money, and make your car a lot louder...than get i/h/e
if it doesn't seem appealing, forget it. You're not willing to do anything major, you're not going to get anything major back from it.
next time just do some research yourself...and if you wanted to go fast, you shouldn't have bought the SE...so deal with it...get a stereo

Go with the standard bolt -ons.I think they are worth it (but if you can just get a turbo). I/H/E and get a VAFC.Lower your VTEC to 3500 RPMS (assuming the engine is VTEC-not sure on the SE) and you will notice some decent gains. Not everyone needs 250+ HP. 17-20 HP make a nice difference in normal driving. If you want CRX performance ,cut out the entire center section of the car, weld the rear wheels and suspension just behind the front seat and enjoy-don't forget to lose the trunk also.
Looks like I'm gonna start saving for a turbo kit then ... "Ping pong table" HAhaha!! Now THAT'S funny!
Don't get me wrong ... I absolutely LOVE this car. I don't NEED to speed around, it's just that the lack of power is the ONLY little minor thing that I wish I could address - If I could get it to be a bit faster (quicker), this would be my favorite car until I can afford an NSX
Thank you for your input! I appreciate it!

I will be purchasing a '02 EX V6 in 2 or 3 years (my sister bought it with the intention of selling it to me. She really wanted a Lexus IS300 but will wait a few years...) and I guess I'd like to know if bolt-ons will be worth it? I'm betting the would, but don't I need 2 sets of headers? Plus, I won't change the exhaust 'cuz I like the way it looks already. Actually, the car is already so quiet i think it would be a sin to make it a screamer. hehe. I read about the Comptech supercharger, it sounds very nice but I won't have that kind of cash.
anyway, what kind of hp gains from those bolt-ons for the J30? Does the torque robbing auto steal some of the gains from bolt-ons?
