91 civic DX questions
I got a 91 DX 4 door and the alternator is goin bad, do I have to remove the right axle to take out the alt?
Btw, what chassis is this year and trim model, as well as the stock engine?
Also it feels like the steering/front end is a little "spongy" or not too tight, what could be the possible issues?
Thanks for any and all input!

no, it will come out from the engine bay. just bring it up through where the brake master cylider is.
proabably because your car is 18 years old and all the old bushings, ball joints, tie rods, struts, ect... are worn out.

Thanx for all the input!
Some A-Hole at Pep Boys told me that the alternator job was considered a "blocked" process by the axel and they were gonna charge me to take out the axe so they could get to the alt. at 135.00 an Hr for labor!!!!!!
WTF????

Umm...I have a '88 CRX HF and I could not do like you said above. But, I was able to bring it up between the firewall and the input of the IM.

Either that or one or both of your front tire is/are low on air.

on my 91 civic si i was able to replace the alt. by bringing it up through where the master cylinder is. its a tight fit no doubt, but it can certainly be done that way.

On my 91 Hatchback STD, I just removed the alternator bracket that connects to the engine block, then there was enough room to bring it up through. It's only two bolts to remove, then I put the replacement alternator back down, set it on the A frame and bolted the bracket back on to the block.

That's funny, I've owned 2 89 CRX HF's, 89 CRX Si, a 91 hatch Si, a 90 4 door DX, and a 91 CRX Si, and i was able to bring the alternator out where the master cylinder/brake booster is on all of them. And no I didn't have to replace all the alternators but I did pull the motors of 5 of the 6 and i always unbolted the alternator as well as anything else that could be removed for an easier removal of the engine. The 6th car i had to replace just the alternator and did it the same way. Maybe you just didn't position it right.
