Hey guys, I have a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe (4cyl) and was hoping someone can drop some knowledge on me. I was working on my car the other day so I removed my lower center console cover and saw the harnesses for my SRS computer brain was unplugged. There are 3 yellow harnesses that are not connected. I bought the car used 2 years ago. By common sense I should plug them back in, but I don't want the air bags to go off, but I also want to be protected when I get in an accident. Should I bring it to Honda?? I would really appreciate if someone can give me some advice. Thanks!

Im assuming the SRS light hasnt been on since you bought the car? Seems like the previous owner had done something fishy to the car before it was handed off. Id check the carfax on it for sure....

As far as plugging it in; you'd just have to unplug the battery and leave it sit for 10-15 min or so, then plug it in and reconnect the battery. Theres also a SRS light reset procedure you can find by searching. Id try that before taking it to honda, but there was also a recall on some SRS units by honda for the 2k model yr I believe, so call them and ask them about that as well.

 

Not sure about Canada, but in the US, doing that is illegal. Especially if it was done to present the car as something it was not.

Yes you can safely work on the SRS system by removing the battery for 10 - 15 minutes. I don't generally let any one else work on my car, but in all honestly, I would be REAL tempted to get Honda to work on it. You have no idea why the system is unplugged, and so you can't even begin to guess what will happen when you plug it in. I have to guess that at the minimum, the SRS light on the dash will come on and you'll have to pull the code from it anyway
