does anyone know how to remove the panel that holds the heater controls and radio in?
im trying to change my heater control cause it aint working but i have no idea of how to take it out. is there a special tool to remove it or do i have to remove my whole dash to get to it like i was told? thanks
remove the radio and there's a single large screw in the center above where the radio was.
The ribbon connectors on the heater control are short and must be unclipped and remove the control cable from the heater under the dash center right side first.

I think there are 3 screws above the radio if i'm not mistaking.. been a bit since i've took mine out though.
There are, the front 2 at a very akward 45 degree angle. By the time you're done you can probably get a job with the circus as a contortionist. Disconnect the air mix cable at the heater core do not attempt to remove it at the climate control unit, it can't be done without damaging either the cable or the unit.

When we replaced the climate control box in mine, we had to pull the dash. It wasn't hard but for the love of god keep track of all the bolts.
You don't have to pull the dash. I've removed multiple and reinstalled 5th gen climate controls more times then I can count. The 2 front screws are just in a really akward spot, you can't seen them at all, you just have to feel your way around.
i REALLY wish i knew this before i had taken mine out. the diy thread hadn't told me about it and i thought it was suppossed to slide out or something. one thing led to another and that ended up being a snapped plastic piece on the climate control..
long story short my climate control is stuck on heat for half the year, then when summer comes i take the radio out and have to hold the rod so i can slide it to cold....
i should really just buy a new climate control though..
See the free online shop manuals linked at http://ww1.honda.co.uk/car/owner/workshop.html. Also, autozone.com has free online shop manuals specific to your Civic that often paraphrase or even repeat much of the shop manual. I found both of these helpful when I pulled the climate control unit on my 93 a few months ago.
