Icon2 Rust in Cylinders...

Hey Guys,

I picked up a block for a B16A2 today for $30, kind of planned on having to get some machine work done to it... There is rust in the piston cylinders... Can machine work take care of this adequately? I was able to clean a lot of it out of the cylinders by putting oil on a rag and cleaning off the walls of the cylinders in that fashion. However, there is still a small amount left in two, and good amount in the other two. I tried to take pictures but they did not turn out very good... Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Brian

Just slight surface rust. If you plan on machine work you'll be just fine.

A hone like pictured above or a ball hone may also do the trick.

You can use some steel wool to get it out also.

If your going to work on the block. It doesn't matter if there is rust on the cylinder walls, because you are going to get it honed or bored over for your build.

It will because honing takes away the surface. If worse comes to worse bore it over, to the next size problem solved.

When he gets the block done, I hope he puts it back together. Rather than just sitting there, after the fresh rehone or bore.

Yes I plan on having it bored, thinking 81.5... And I made sure to oil it this time too. I think the guy who sold it to me must have just let it sit on the garage floor. But yes, will do with the oil. How much will a bore job cost?
