Most common problem for the Prelude SH is bad drivers. If you aren't one and you avoid those who are, you're golden.

If the car has over 100k on it would be nice to see papers showin that the timing belt and tensioner have been replaced. The tensioner leaks oil and then the timing belt flapps against the case and eventually shreds the belt or skips a tooth.

Womp the engine from idle to just about 1,500 and back down a few times. Listen around 1000-1200. If the tensioner is shot, at that rpm range you can hear a slapping/rattle, especially if your head is under the hood. You can put your hand on the timing cover case and feel it slapping.

Always look UNDER the car. the undercarrage can be a great indicator of what kinda life the car has had

i'd ask to see whatever service records they have and what TSB's have been done; the oil seal retainer was a pretty important one. doing a compression & leakdown test is always a good idea as it will give you a general indication of the motor. any mods done to it?
