theyre not the same harness because the y5 has a wide band o2 which has 5 wires. get a y8 harness/ecu that matches your car 96-98 or 99-00 and make sure to get a 5 speed one if yours is 5 speed. unless you want to do some wiring. but if you wanted to do that you can just use your stock y5 harness.

All I can think of right now is that the primary 02 sensor wiring is different.

HX's use wideband primary 02 sensor while the Y8 uses the regular 02 sensor and wiring.

'96 - '98 harness if its '96 - '98 and '99 - '00 harness if its '99 - '00 is generally the way it goes. The only thing is i've been told HXs remained OBD2A all the way through, in other words from '96 - '00. Honestly for the little bit of work it is to change from a 5 wire to a 4 wire O2 sensor i'd just keep the HX harness.

get the wiring diagrams for an HX and EX, compare the two, you will also need to aquire a 4 wire O2 sensor plug shell from a honda engine harness with a 4 wire O2 sensor (junkyard)

No. You'll simply have 1 or more wires left over that will simply be taped up at the ends. IIRC the HX is normally stated as having a 5 wire O2 sensor, but the wire diagram I have says its a 7 wire. We didn't get HXs in canada so its pretty hard for me to go check an actual HX to confirm one way or the other.

Theres were im a little confuse i know the primary is on the engine harness, but the secondary on out under the drivers seat?

with the EX harness the secondary O2 sensor wiring is part of the chassis harness and goes through the floor. CX/DX/LX have both O2 sensors as part of the engine harness. I'm not sure about the HX.

i think this is what your looking for. that and a factory service manual from hondahookup.com should be all you need to figure it out.
