I notice my rear brake disc are not wearing evenly. The outer part of the disc is being grind down and you see silver shiny metal like normal. But the inner part of the disc is not being touch, rust is starting to build up. What is going on? Thanks.

 

Check and see if the caliper is sliding easily on the pins. In and out motionwith entire caliper.

 

Slugo is right, most likely its the pins that pushes the calipers in/out. i've seen it happen on my car and my buddies car. Lube the calipers up and see if that solves the problem. Also check to make sure the brake pads are aligned aswell.

 

Agreed with the other posts! JUst lube all the necessary items and make sure the caliper piston isn't getting caught somewhere.

 

I see. Well, this is the rear brakes so there is no pins where the calipers slides onto like the front. It just slips over the pads. I did notice on the brake pad there is a small short pin, more like a bump or stick I guess you can call it. It looks like it's suppose to catch with the "cross pattern" of the rear piston and I am concern it is not falling into the cross pattern rather it might be off the pattern and causing my pads to wear unevenly. I hope all of this makes sense. If not I'll take some pictures and send. But I used a tool to clockwise turn the piston back in, is there a way you should turn it or should the cross pattern be in a certain way when sliding the calipers onto the pads?

Yes you need to line up the pin on the inboard pad with the slot in the caliper piston

the piston should be like this for the pin to be aligned correctly


If you don't get it right the inboard pad will wear like this

Well, I took it apart and carefully turn the piston to make sure it's lined up properly. After doing this to both sides it's still not wearing away evenly. I still see the rust build up on the inner surface of the rotors. Hmm, what could be the problem now?
