Default Need Help ASAP: Changed valve cover gasket n seals on 94! Oil pressure light on!

OK so last night I changed out my valve cover gasket and the spark plug tube seals on my 94 Accord. Eveything went smooth besides the oil buildup inside the valve cover and on the rocker assembly. I started it up last night and it ran fine! Today I drove it say 25 min and after like 20 min I seen the oil light flicker. N than it kept flickering more and more to the point of where it stays on now but flickers just barely everynow and than. I havent tried starting the car again because I dont want to mess anything up.

When I was messing with the rocker assembly I did knock some oil buildup sludge stuff down into the passages. Would this be what is causing my problem? Could I have stopped up the oil screen? I soon as I parked the car I popped the hood to see if anything was leaking but everything was dry where I worked.

So now I really need some help figuring this out ASAP! I need the car!

Thanks

There is a guide in the FAQ at the top of this section. Check it! It shows how to do it! It is really easy! Took like an hour and half.

But can anyone help me here? I need this fixed!

the oil light is on or flickering cause the oil pressure is low. check the oil level, its probably 2 quarts low. if you messed something up in the head you would know. it only takes a few minutes to replace the valve cover gaskets and seals.

I just checked the oil last night after I got done! I replaced the oil like 2 weeks ago and it was still full last night but that was before I drove the car. I wouldnt think my oil level is low because of that. :/

What are some other possibilities?

More than likely it is my screen in the oil pan right? From where the gunk fell down the passages! So my only option is to remove the oil pan?

It is also possible a failed oil pressure switch. Changing the switch is much easier than removing the oil pan and cleaning the oil pick up screen.

i agree...its the oil pressure sending unit behind the head...did this to me once the oil light would flicker and stay on etc...sad thing is the motor blew soon after...lack of oil pressure scince my valves seals were completly burnt so i spun a bearing...but yeah if your oil is good and the light still commes on check that oil pressure sending unit

How would this be possible? I mean the car was perfectly fine till I did this! How would chunks of oil buildup falling through the oil passages make the switch fail? I think this oil buildup has been washed into the bottom of the pan and has now clogged up the screen! That is my opinion but that is why I am asking on here to see if anyone else thinks the same?

I really need to figure out something!

I meant it is one of the possibilities that caused the oil light on. It is not necessary related to the work you have done this time. It is just simply failed at this time. A short time after I changed my water pump, my oil light was on. I thought my pick up screen was clogged by dog hires because my dog stayed with me in garage the whole day. Removed the oil pan and did not find anything on the screen. Then the problem was fixed by simply changing the oil pressure switch. You can also try to clean the screen first. But, I meant the changing oil pressure switch is a very easy fix if it is failed. BTW, when my oil pressure switch failed, it also flickered and then stayed on.

How much buildup did you drop in there. Maybe try running some Seafoam in the crankcase to loosen things up and then do an oil change.
Does the motor rattle or knock when the oil pressure light is on? That would be a sign of low or no oil pressure.

Im not sure how much fell down in there. I took off the valve cover again last night and went ahead and cleaned it all up! It really was not that bad now! I guess it all in the bottom! I replaced the oil pressure switch so I am sure it not that!

No there are not rattles or knocking yet. There seems to be oil still getting to the top as the valves were all still wet.

What I think I am going to do is get some copper tubing and bend it and stick it up the drain hole at the oil screen and blow the screen off! I tried taking off the oil pan last night but I could not budge the bolts for the exhaust but I didnt put too much pressure on them though since I did not have any help nor did I have my 3 ft breaker bar.

try replacing your oil pressure switch before you do anything else. its better to replace it and find out that thats the problem than to not replace it and mess up something in the motor by digging in it.

Is it possible you didn't seal all of the little gaps between the valve cover and the head with the gasket? This may be causing your head & block to not have the propper pressure within.

Already replaced the oil pressure switch! The light went off for a few min until I drove the car off the drive on ramps and than it came on! It started flashing so I pulled back up on the ramps and turned it off.

I am pretty sure everything gotten sealed! I didnt have no leaks anywhere around the cover! Well it all looked dry. I didnt see any splatter anywhere even after I took it back off the other night.

What do you guys think of blowing air inside trying to blow off the oil pump screen? Can anyone like tell me where exactly the oil screen is inside the oil pan? Like how far to the right is it from the drain hole? How high is it from the bottom of the oil pan also?

lolol. good luck with that. if you want to clean your screen you HAVE to remove the pan. then remove the oil pick up tube. be sure that you have a torque wrench also as you will need it to reinstall the oil pick up. i think 96ft lbs or somthing. the screen is in the bottom of the tube, closest to the bottom of the oil pan. hit it with some carb cleaner or something similar and then blow it off with compressed air. its ideal to have a hose that you can reach down into the top of the tube to clean the screen off.

OK so today I dropped the oil pan and got the screen all cleaned out! Yes it was stopped up! So got it all back together added new oil and started it up and the light didnt even come on! So I let it run for 15 min and than drive it .1 tenth mile and let it sit for another 5 min. So than I take it out to drive and drive prob 1 mile down the road and out the corner my eye seen the light flicker. So I watched it n than like 4 secs later it starting flashing again so than I was like wtf and turned around and drive it back to the house. By than the light was starting to stay on all the time.

I really really need some help on this! I am completely stumped! My girlfriend is wanting her car back sometime soon! I am doing everything I can to figure this out but nothing is working with me!

I have changed out the oil pressure sensor and cleaned out the whole bottom oil pan and oil screen. I did not change the oil filter though. Could the oil filter be causing this problem still? I say the filter is probably stopped up but I didnt get a filter at the time because I forgot about it. I am gonna go get one tomorrow. But I just wanted some opinions about that? Isnt there a bypass valve for the filter so when it does get clogged up the oil will bypass? But the bypass doesnt circulate as much oil as the filter does?

I really need help with this guys! I am beyond stumped! Today I changed the oil filter and started the car up and the light went out! Later on I found out my valve cover gasket blew! So I fixed that and started the car back up and it was running fine! So I took it out for like 35 min just easy driving! Just looking in subdivisions looking at lights and the oil pressure light never came on!

So I got into it a bit, accelerating a bit harder and what not and than I noticed the light flicker. Than it started coming on more! Than it got to the point that the last 1.5 miles I drove it was just flashing! So I got it home and parked it and the light stayed on and than I revved it up and the light flickered. I think I might have a leak somewhere? I am not sure!

Can anyone help me out here? I am completely stumped and need some major help ASAP!

instead of guessing what the problem is, why not hoook up an actual oil pressure guage and see if the pressure is fine or not. then you will konw what you should do.
