Default 96 spec vs. 98 spec speedo

Hi all,

I just got a 98 spec dc2R and the speedo is kinda wierd... When Vtec kicks in, the rpm needle jumps all over the place, and the speed needs sometimes moves when i just rev during standstill, so i tried to fit the 96 spec speedo that I have and the wiring is different.

Is it possible to make it fit?

Cheers

I didnt buy it, the 96 was from my old car, and 98 on the new car.
There is a yellow plug on the 98 one and the 96 one didnt have a hole to plug it into.

This doesn't sound like a speedo problem to me. I had this problem with my GSR (tach was jumpy) and it turned out to be a bad distributor. Just something to think about.

Good Luck!

I fixed the distributor and the problem seems to gone away from the brief drive.
I will test it again when the car is back from the paint shop.

Thanks

If I want to convert a 96 speedo to my 98 car, how do I do it?

You need to remove the actual speedometer clock from your 96spec cluster and re-fit it into your 98spec cluster, but i dont see the point as theyre both the same, its the circuitry on the green film thats different. your problem is classic distributor problem symptom and you say that it stopped when you changed distributors so you have no need to swap out speedos.

So If I am to swap a 96 Spoon speedo onto my 98, is there a lot of work involved?
