Default accord ignition help... turned to hell

okay... so my buddy has a automatic 94 accord lx. his car was having troubles where it would just randomly die in the middle of the road, to where it finally died. the car stayed running when you held the key to the crank on position. so heck, its gotta be the key ignition switch under the key thing. when we moved it into the garage there was a loud weird noise coming from the alternator. not sure what it is. belt is tight.. but i just ignored it..
so i replace the ignition switch and cranked it, nothing... check fuses, and its the big fuse in the engine compartment(big 50 amp). not where or what i grounded, but that was my fault forgetting to take the battery cable off. i changed it and crank.. nothing.... now it sounds just like it's wanting to starting and is puttering.

troubleshoot: first off, checked for spark. got spark on all four.

second, fuel pump working? yes.... problem was, when you had the key all the way to crank position, battery light and everything wasn't on. when you kinda crank it over to crank position but not all the way you then hit fuel pump on. weird....so w/ the complete ignition unit, i just used the new one he got, plugged the two green connectors, the small black one, and it was better. i just left it hanging there, but still works...

i noticed there's hella oil all around the distributor. so i was kinda thinking, could it be the cap n rotor even tho its getting spark? took the cap off and there was going inside, but isn't touching the cap teeth nor rotor. cleaned it and still nothing.

next, since we got spark time to check for fuel... took intake off and while he was cranking i sprayed starting fluid in. didn't even putter nor jumped a little. so its not a fuel problem

my other friends accord is sitting outside and im thinking bout swapping over the dizzy and maybe alternator over to see what goes. thing is, my friends car is getting weak in power and we jack the other guys battery and right away got weak too. can't be alternator because it should still start, correct? but not sure about these accords if its like that or not. but what do you guys think? wiring issues? only thing i touched was that key ignition switch, so what could it be? and yes all fuses under the kick panel are good too, unless there's a deep one hidden somewhere that i missed.

last question is... would the vtec dizzy fit the non vtec? bolt position and pattern looks the same

anything, info, step by step procedures, or pictures would help. thanks in advance!!

Your timing belt tensioner may have given up the ghost and allowed the cam to jump out of phase (retarded).
If the cam should retard, it will retard the timing as well.
I would suggest checking the alternator to make sure you don't have an issue there (worn bearings, etc) and if it passes muster, see about inspecting the timing belt. There should be no indications of fraying or damage to the molded teeth.
I would also verify that the cam is properly phased to the crankshaft to avoid any damage to the valve train.
