You really just need a simple 110 MIG. Check out your local craigslist or welding supply store for a used one, you can sometimes find some killer deals.

don't buy one of those 100 dollar harbor freight ones.. They have a high and low setting and that makes me laugh.. Get a 110 mig as said above.. try to get one thats gas shielded.. They run a lot nicer than those flux cored crap machines

for that type of work you need something like miller dynasty 700.

just messin, you could also rent a mig at home depot for about $30

I recently bought a 220v Lincoln Mig off Craigslist for $350. Something like that would work great for you. Just keep your eye out for deals.

Technically all welders are arc welders, but commonly a stick welder is refered to as an "arc welder" It would work.. Mig welders are a little easier to work with, and more productive. You can do just as nice of a job with a stick welder but it's harder to do..

Don't bother renting one. If you are just learning, you need to practice a lot to get anywhere close to good. You'll spend close to what it will cost you to buy a decent used machine in rental fees.

I would only rent one if I was away from a machine or already knew how to weld but didn't have my own machine.
