I have a B16A with a JG engine dynamics log manifold pushing 11 pounds of boost. I haven't even sequentially redlined gears and after just a couple days I'm hearing an exhaust leak from the bottom right corner looking at it from the front of the car. I purchased another copper gasket and will replace it this Saturday and re-torque all the bolts.

I've heard from a couple people this can be due to the manifold warping but I don't think this is possible since I've never even gotten the turbo "hot" yet or even pushed it close to its limits yet. Hell the car probably hasn't even gone over 100mph yet since I baby the hell out of a car until I'm completely confident it can handle itself.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

 

Just because you aren't boosting, it doesn't mean that your manifold isn't "hot." Make sure to torque the bolts in a criss-cross pattern, starting in the middle.

 

Well I meant "hot" in the sense of me really pushing it but yea I agree with what you're saying. That's what I'll try when the new one goes in place. I can't stand the sound it sounds like a beat up ricer. Sounds like some half *** welded on ebay exhaust muffler and I just want it to go away lol. Fix yourself car fix yurself!

 

It's not uncommon for manifolds to be warped right out of the box.I give them a quick check on a surface plate before I install one now.Been there before.

 

if this is the case is there a cheap fabricated fix or just buy a new manifold? the log style are reasonably priced but was looking to upgrade to a tubular style right this second. the manifold sounded great for 3 days then the exhaust noise was heard from the lower right hand corner of the manifold. thanks for the replies

 

how do you know the manifold flange did not warp from when it was initially welded up? Or is this a cast manifold? JG=crap no matter how you cut it, when will people realize this?

I didn't know JG was a bad company. Here is a pic of the setup. It sounded perfect the first few days. Took third gear up to 8500 RPM one night with a friend in the car and heard a slight exhaust leak the next day. Now it sounds slightly worse.

 

What do you have against JG?

 

new gasket being installed as I speak. can't wait to hear it back to normal without the embarassing ricer sound anymore.

 

in 98 they sent us a warped bottom end that blew the motor up. Cost us 10 g's. jg didnt owned up, never dealt with them again.

new gasket installed and removed uneeded tial waste gate blown gasket and the car purrs perfectly. no more leaks and props to japtrix racing here in west palm beach florida for the above and beyond effort they made to get a stripped wastegate bolt and putting the proper size bolt on. and let me just say buddyclub security turbo timers are worthless. when they started to work on the car they disconnected the battery and when it came time to reconnect everything the turbo timer recpectively asked for the four digit password. we entered the password and it read "EEEE" meaning error. we called buddyclub and they said this happens when the battery is disconnected.......are you ****ing kidding me? the unit locks itself out?! so buddyclub is basically saying if your battery dies, or have something that requires you to disconnect the battery you have to send the unit away to unlock itself. that is the single most retarded thing in the import industry I have seen. test your **** out before you mass produce something buddyclub! good thing we rewired the car without the turbo timer so i could drive home.

 

Your obviously new to the import scene, you have already seen what one person said, now lets just lightly touch on his "titanium" valvesprings that kept breaking causing countless people to drop valves and destroy there motors. As usual JG never owned up to it.
