D16y8 head on a D16y7?
Hey guys since my 2000 EK does not have V-tec, as it has the D16y7, a forum member suggested I put a y8 head on it i'm assuming that will solve my problems?, will i see more performance gains?, and last can i use any 96-00 y8 head or does it have to be specifically the 2000 version?

there is alot of information about the process you are describing. it's been done a billion times for years and years.
since the search function sucks so bad right now on this forum, i can suggest googling "mini-me write up" for information on such a thing, or possibly checking out d-series.org
good luck!

The pictures are down, but the information is still there.

a b16 vs. a sohc vtec in terms of output....
apples and oranges.
a mini-me is essentially a d16y8; the compression ratio is practially the same, the only improvement is the vtec feature. yes, the intake manifold, knock sensor, etc, etc but those can be retrofitted to a y7; a vtec feature can't unless the head is swapped.
so, a mini-me and y8 are about the same.
so, while the b16 is a high revving short stroke machine that will put out more overall power, the d16y8 is a relatively low revving long stroke engine that will make moderate torque earlier and longer than a b16. a d16y8 makes about the same torque that a b16 makes, but sooner...keep that in mind.
honestly, this arguement is like asking which infant will win a race. they are both slow, and without working out, growing up and being improved in almost every way, it doesn't really matter.
both can be turboed, both can be built up in NA form, both are not very powerful without modification.
