Default **announcement, 12-15-08**

i've been getting more and more reports of threads where regulars from this subforum are being smartasses and extremely abrasive.

i've been noticing it myself, aside from the reports. some of you are getting a little out of control.

though this type of behavior might be par for the course in GDD, i'd like some of you more senior 06+ members to be a little more courteous and just generally 'nice'.

being a d-bag, especially to new members, isn't going to help anyone, except possibly the inner e-bully in you.

let's try to work on this for the better of the forum. it's getting annoying and you guys are cooler than that!

thanks.

people just get annoyed that teh new members come in and just ask the same ol' questions and not using the search function. But on the other hand nothing new is happening to users cars and then asking the same questions is giving us something to respond to.

ehh, that's not what i'm seeing. granted, that can definately get annoying, and since the beginning of BBS's that specifically has been a problem, but the right way to deal with that is to just ignore it and let someone who is less annoyed handle the thread. and if noone wants to handle the response, the person will get the point. it's very rare nowadays that someone coming on the forum doesn't understand how to search, it's just that people are lazy. so, if people are lazy, and don't evoke a response from the forum members, they will be forced to search. either way, the person will get the point. just let the thread drop and the problems take care of themselves. bumping it by being a d-bag, and then letting the others gang up will not do anything but cause a scene.

then again, does the search function even work well right now? lol, i have to check that....

anyway,

i'm seeing just generally inflammatory posts and it seems to be the same group of people doing it.

all i'm saying is try your best to not be a jerk. that's all i'm asking.

*Sigh, I couldn't agree more. Nothing like getting 25 emails an hour for this exact reason. I've mentioned this to several members, hopefully we can all help out.

I got an infraction for my comment in the type R thread? it was a sarcastic comment and I could have come up with something much worse.

Join the club. I got an infraction for posting a sarcastic joke post even though I made it CLEAR that it was a joke a couple posts later....before I received the infraction.

seems like we get one of these threads every 6 months to a year. everyone says "oh yah sorry...I'll play nice" but a couple months later we go back to our old ways. the temptation is just too much. it's like this generation of new guys are more idiotic. I really don't remember it being like this several years ago.

that's because it wasn't like this. people have changed. attitudes about the internet, and how you act on it, have changed immensely. i came on this forum in the middle of 00, changed my name in 02 and until i'd say 03ish, things on here were 'normal'. same thing with the old h-a forum before that....

times have changed in general, the 'net has just expedited it. people now consider this an opportunity to fire at will because they know there are no repercussions. you know, if you talked to people like they do now on the webz in real life, you'd get a black eye or broken nose. 10 years ago, you didn't do that because you were more used to communicating with people the proper way, meaning 'nicely', in real life, as opposed to constantly leaning toward the inclination to hail insults protected by the webz.

unfortunately, i didn't know when i took on this moderation thing that i'd have to do this much in terms of baby sitting. i really wanted to help improve content and streamline the information, but we spend most of our time acting as referees and slapping wrists.

it's pretty annoying.

very true. a lot of people hide behind the internet but in real life they are nothing like what they are online.

I am very happy to see the moderator come on and say something. I have been on this forum for over 3 years (changed user names a few times) The quality and attitude of so many responses really put me off this forum for a while. I use to check this forum daily since I am constantly making changes to my 2006 SI (we are adding NOS to the Supercharger currently) and enjoy reading what other were doing. For me, it got so bad it was not worth my time, and I would only drop in on occation.

It would be nice to have the old forum back. I will be building up a new lower end and I know some of the best people are on this forum. I know the help will be needed.

i feel the same way sometimes. back when i used to own a 97 coupe i would check that respective forum daily and I actually enjoyed it. with this forum i come on every so often. the **** talking in here kinda rubs off and i find myself being like everyone else. there are times though when I would start to make a d-bag comment on someones post but never post it because i think "what's the point". but there are times when i feel the question being asked is seriously stupid and I'm almost obligated to reply. I don't know...it's like a mood swing thing with me i guess. maybe i just need to stop posting and just browse.

Im not saying that its ok to make a dbad response. I was just pointing out that people are making those dumb *** comments and it dosnt do any good. But the other side of it was that ppl do create multiple threads of the same thing. "Which one is beter S/C or Turbo", "which turbo is better" "which intake is better" "cai or sri" ect ect.

As well as the few that posted above me. I would check the site out once or twice a day and then for a while there i stopped. now its occassional.

I can understand how it gets tiresome when several threads are created concerning intakes or boost methods (I have had my share of douche bagging myself) but I have come to see that in other chassis-specific forums that these types of threads are received rather maturely. Members in the know respond in a constructive fashion despite the commonality of that thread topic.

I don't understand why that this forum cannot be the same. My reasoning is that this generation of the civic is marketed to a slightly younger and similarly slightly less mature crowd, hence the rather juvenile responses in some of these threads (my 0.02).
