My friend has a 95 Accord. He disconected the battery and now the radio needs to code. He went to the dealer and they said it costs $100. Is there another way to get the code? Is it somewhere in the car or on the radio?
theyre full of crap ... i paid $10 to get my code from a honda dealer
take the serial number on the radio ... some kind of proof of ownership [registraion] ... i suggest going to another dealer ...

With proof of ownership and the serial they will give it to you for free. Newer models seem to be on that website that's posted up (IF YOU SEARCH YOU FIND IT!)
They charge you for the pulling of the radio which is what they were trying to do.

That's correct, the charge is for the pulling of the radio.
Best bet is if he shows up at the Service Counter with title and what not and provides them the serial. They look it up on the PC and he'll have it instantly. Takes 10 secs. If they still try to charge (like they did above) you can call American Honda and complain - they'll set the dealer straight.
Like I mentioned there IS a website, but I tried it and no luck, I'm assuming it's for the newer model Hondas.

When I needed the code for my EM1, I just went to a random dealership holding the deck and my registration. I got the code for free within 5 minutes.
$100 is ridiculous, ha. I wonder how many people fall for that.

Ask 10 people for $100 and they get 1, that's $100 for nothing
I don't blame em

Honda decided to make it online now. So if you have your serial and other stuff on record, u can get it online.

Turn the radio on. On my 5th gen, it says Code. Then i press in the code. Tada it works!
If it's not doing anything, it must be locked. Take out the negative and wait for a few minutes and try again. I'm not sure, but I think it locks itself (won't accept any code) to prevent any tampering. Not sure.
