Default Turbo kit for 1999 4 cylinder

Hey dudes i recently bought a 1999 accord 4 cylinder manual as a college car, and it's a great car for the money, but am looking to upgrade to a turbo. Basically, i want the most horsepower for the cheapest amount of money, while keeping the motor safe. I've seen new kits on ebay for around 1,000 dollars, and was wondering what your take on those are, or any other bang for the buck turbos you know about? Also, what kind of horsepower should i expect over my car now? And i guess just basic information on turbos for 4 cylinder accords would be appreciated, as i don't know much. (sorry about not using the search button) Thanks everyone!

--you can only pick two, you cant have all three.

A 1,000$ ebay turbo set up is not going to give you much but headaches.
You will need several grand for the setup alone, if you can install and tune yourself. If you cant you you will need quite a bit more.

Google : Turbo 101

ebay kits are garbage, they will fail on you guaranteed ... horsepower doesn't come cheap ive learned this the hard way ... you either have to do an engine swap ... or a get good real turbo kit ... they say its safe to run about 8lbs on stock internals on the f23 ... but regardless a turbo will shorten the life span of your motor without the proper upgrades and tuning ... which eventually will cost more than an engine swap ...

ahh damn, i suspected this. 1,000 is too good to be true. So I'm pretty much stuck then horsepower wise? I'm guessing any engine work isn't going to add much since it's such a small engine. What do you guys recommend, with about 1,000-1500 budget? Should i just keep my money?

If your engine is reliable I would just stick with it and go for some good looks!!! But if engine upgrades are a must then you should build the head off your stock engine.. Including sleeve, pistons and rods upgrade.

You could go with I/H/E and have a bump in HP. And/or you could add a stage 2 regrind cam from BISI. A tune. There are countless things you could do. But before you do anything, you should set yourself some goals and budgets and read up on a few things and figure out where you want to be.
The 1,000 - 1,500$ budget is not a bad starting point at all, you will just need to figure out how you want to spend it.

you can get a h22 motor for around 900 ... then get a matching ecu ... and little things here and there ... drop it in yourself ... f23 5 speed transmission swaps right over ... thats what im doing

would ebay be the best bet for a good deal on the h22? Also, you say a i need a matching ecu and little things here and there....are those things necessary, or just recommended? Would an h22 complete engine that i bought off ebay just hook right up to my car? I would probably have a friend who's more motor inclined that i am do the work.

An H22 for $900?? Where are you shopping?!
& Why would you make a mockery of an H22 by matching it with an F23 5 speed?

yeah unless you are boosting you might want to stick with a H series tranny. a popular combo is the h22 motor with the h23 tranny. i am running one. it saves rpms at highway speed which means less gas.
