Default Valve adjustment

Will it hurt anything or cause excessive cam wear having the valves adjusted at .006 intake and exhaust: 97 Odyssey 4 cyl.?

You run the risk of a valve not fully seating after the engine is warmed up, due to the expansion of the rocker arms, etc.

Thank you very much. I will change these back immediately. What would you suggest as proper gap: .010 intake and .012 exhaust? Or .008/.010? I can live with the noise if it is best for the engine.

Well a lot of Japanese engines have a pretty noticeable ticking sound as the throttle is increased.. But when you hear this sound its what the engine should sound like, no worries.. Bent valves or wrongs adjustment you can def hear the difference in ticking.

My valves were ticking pretty bad and really loud when throttling up. Sounded like the valves were actually slapping. I checked them before adjusting and they were around .012 thou. intake and exhaust. I first adjusted them to .010 intake and exhaust with no change. It sounded really bad under load and throttling up. I then readjusted at .008 intake and exhaust. Still making noise so adjusted again at .006 and .008. And then finally .006 and .006. Pretty much quiet now unless throttling up. I'm planning on backing them off to .008 and .010 this weekend. I was under the impression that noisy valves on solid lifters might cause damage to the rockers or valve stems. I can deal with the noise if it keeps the top end of the engine at a minimum wear ratio.
