Default D16Z6 Rebuild Question..

Hey, I need some help with a D16Z6 rebuild.

Basically, I have a CX hatch and I'm taking out the old motor to put in a D16Z6. What components do I need to basically do a rebuild for full reliablity civic hatch? I'm putting this all together for my brother, hopefully it'll be enough to him for a reliable beater.

Anyways, here is my check list of what needs to be done for the rebuild plus the hatch.

I'm also trying to save as much money as I can so tell me what's not really 'Mandatory' for replacement.

New Components:

* Full Overhaul Gasket Set
- Head Gasket, IM Gasket, EM Gasket, Oil Pan gasket

* Pistons and Piston Rings
- I'll have to check if Pistons are in good condition first but Piston Rings are a must.

* Main Bearings
* Rod Bearings
* Thrust Washers
* Timing Belt
* Timing Belt Tensioner
- a must?

* Oil Pump
- The D16Z6 had about 300,000KM on it and my friend said that, that's pretty high mileage to keep the old oil pump. So should I replace it?

*Valves
- Do I have to replace it?

*Valve Springs/Retainers
- Do I have to replace it?

*Valve Seals
- A must of course

*Waterpump
*Timing Belt
*Cam Seal
*Rear/Main Seal
*OEM Clutch
- or maybe a ACT

*Front Lower Control Arm (bushings are shot)
*Front Pads/Front Rotors
*Rear Shoes/Rear Drums
*P28 ECU
*VTEC Subharness

What else am I missing? And so again, I'm trying to not spend too too much.

I'm assuming your doing an OEM rebuild.

But if you get into replacing pistons, rods, valves etc you might want to look at going aftermarket. Why not build a motor up if your going to rebuild it? Esp. if you plan on going boost later down the road.

Some parts are cheaper then OEM, unless you find decent quality used parts.

Well, nothing is mandatory.
I would do everything on that list though.

The things I recommend definitely replacing without a doubt are the oil pump, water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, all seals and gaskets, piston rings, and all bearings.

For a minimal reliable build i would do: piston rings, bearing (rod+main), thrust bearing, rear main seal, new oil + water pump, t-belt, headgasket and all the other various gasket associated with these and not mess with the head at all.

I do have CP Pistons/FJ R Spec Rods that I was suppose to put in before when I decided to do a Mild Built D - Turbo, but plans have changed. Even so, if he turbos it, I'm sure OEM will be enough for him since he won't go crazy on boost.

I would get forged rods just to be safe, since they're the biggest weakness of that engine. Everything else OEM should be fine.

Hey guys, I'm in a big frustration again. I can't decide if I shold just put new pistons in, or just use the OEM ones since this motor HAS NOT been BOOSTEd or anything. So chances are, it should be pretty good along with the rods?

What do you have in the hatch a D-15 right. Cause what i was thinkin of doing to mine was just replacing the old head w/ a new D-16z6 v-tech Cylinder head but sence your rebuilding yours it's better if you just go aftermarket, for one it will be a better challenge and aftermarket parts give you better quality.

I'm parting out a 94 ex coupe with a D16z6. The motor doesn't work on account of some broken valves but the car itself was in decent condition. Let me know if you need anything.

Default Re: D16Z6 Rebuild Question..

OK, well something happened so I plan to rebuild this motor for myself, and boost to handle 400whp later on.

I have CP Pistons (75.5mm), FJ R Spec Forged H Beam rods to put in. I will have everything else to replaced to OEM. So I made a check list for the machine shop, and I guess for myself to know what's going on too.

BLOCK:

Hot Tank
Hone
Re-surface
Re-Bore since pistons are .5mm oversized.
New Pistons (CP Pistons 75.5mm)
New Rods (FJ R Spec Forged H Beam Rods)
Block Notching due to rods
Crank rebalance or whatever is necessary? (I'm not sure what's need to be done to the crank. All I know is that the engine has been previously **** kicked, so that's the reason why I want a full rebuild)

New:
OEM Main Bearings
OEM Rod Bearings
OEM Thrust bearing
OEM Oil pump and the necessities.
OEM Water pump
OEM Oil pan
OEM Oil pan gasket
OEM Timing Belt Tensioner
OEM Timing Belt
OEM Thermostat
Golden Eagle Blockguard

The car comes with ARP head studs/nuts
..which leads onto the head

HEAD: (I basically want stock spec valve train right now, but I have another Z6 head to go all out on later on)

Clean out everything, (camshaft, head, etc)
Re-surface

New:
OEM Valve Seals
OEM Valve Springs
OEM Valve Retainers
OEM Valve guides (Should I replace? I don't want to replace if it's not necessary)
OEM Valves (Should I replace? I don't want to replace if it's not necessary)
OEM Head gasket
Skunk2 Adjustable Timing Gear or AEM? - (For later on)
OEM Cam Seal

What else am I missing for the machine shop?

I'll be doing this once I receive the motor, and before it goes back into the car.

OEM IM Gasket
OEM EM Gasket
OEM Valve Cover Gasket
OEM Valve Cover Spark plug seals
OEM Spark plugs
OEM Spare Plug wires
OEM Battery
OEM Battery connectors
OEM Upper/Lower Radiator hoses
OEM Heater core hoses

ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate/ 6 puck sprung friction plate

I think I'm missing a few things in my CHRISTMAS LIST, but let me know what else I'm missing.

I work at Honda, so I get a discount on HONDA parts. lol I should be sending out the engine either tomorrow afternoon, or thursday morning.
