Default My H22 build isn't running right. Also confirm my dist. to plug routing...

Here's what I have. Its a Type-S short block mated to an OBD1 head with new valves/seals and put in a 97 SH. When I first started it, I wasn't even really thinking and ran it briefly on 4 year old gas that was in the tank. I don't know if that would have a lot to do with what I'm experiencing or not. But I drained all that gas out and put some fuel system cleaner and fresh gas in. It has probably less than a 1/4 tank ran through it right now.

It basically loses power and bogs at 4k RPMs. Also when I rev it up, the RPMs fall back down to 0 and almost dies out, but stays running most of the time. It also sounds pretty ticky.

I did a compression test last week and I was at 260-270 in all 4 cylinders. Yesterday I confirmed the alignment of everything on the the timing belt and adjusted the valve clearance to spec. I also put new plug wires on. From there, I really don't know what to do.

Here is how I have my wires ran. When I hooked them up I searched and found mixed results on the firing order for the H22. Can someone confirm if this is correct or not?

ya u got the right order....i think it might be a intake manifold issue possibly....like with your idle so try and look for a vaccum leak even.....the weirdest stuff can be the simplest stuff....spray some carbon cleaner around the intake maifold to see if it changes at all and if it changes you got a vaccum leak

Thank for the input. Anyone else?

I tried to start it yesterday and it fired up for a split second then died. Now it won't fire at all. It alway started right up before. Back to the drawing board.

woah. 4 year old gas. its possible that sediment got sucked in the line since it had so long to sit. fuel cleaner can only do so much. does it sound like your motor is being deprived of gas. does the rpms jump at all. smoke, backfire. have you recently changed the rotor and cap. have you checked the ignitor to make sure its still has a strong spade connection.

I'm bumping this old thread because I haven't really figured anything out on it. With all the snow here I lost interest and its been sitting.

It does somehat seem like its being deprived of gas, but I'm sure other issues could make it seem the same way. The RPMs are some what jumpy, yeah. The last time I backed it out of the garage, I had steady pressure on the throttle and it was bouncy as if I was pressing and releasing the gas pedal. As far as I know, the ignition system is good, though I have not changed the rotor and cap. Right now it idles pretty rough and I have to keep on the throttle to keep it running. The exhaust is stock, but it has a little rumble to it and sounds raspy when you rev it up.

I think all of my grounds are good. Can anyone confirm exact locations and how many there are?

TPS and MAP sensors are not switched, right? They use the SAME connector! I've switched them before and the car will run terribly.

Don't worry about the gas. I did the same. It didn't cause any problems.

However, injectors that have sat around for a long time have a tendency to get stuck open or closed. Have you had them cleaned? If everything else checks out, then send your injectors off to be cleaned. I use www.witchhunter.com. I've had them do a few sets for me, and I've been very happy, especially with the pricing!

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

I did that on my first swap (swapping TPS and MAP). I swapped a B18C into a 98 civic. Trust me, that was the first thing I checked

I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. Is there one I can buy at the auto parts that I can tap in to the fuel rail or somethig, just to check it?

Thanks for the link. I havent had them cleaned. I may have to have it done. Even if that isnt the problem, I can rule it out anyway.

If it sat for 4 years it may be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter. Also, as said above me, check your vacuum lines.

Well, you could pop the fuel line off the rail and make sure there's plenty of flow there, then you could pull out the injectors and check the little filters for sludge etc. You can also zip tie the injectors to the rail (so the fuel pressure doesn't spit them out) and crank it with the rail off the manifold to make sure they're not stuck (put containers under each injector).

If you reset the ECU is anything different?
