It's directly in front of the passanger, at their feet. It sits in a small pocket in the panel which transitions from the floor to the firewall. Peel down the carpet and you'll find it there.

has anyone been removing their ecu's as a form of security or to prevent theft since no ecu equals no start. I have been contemplating this.

sorry for bumping an old thread

For long-term storage it might make sense; but for day to day use I wouldn't recommend it.
It's much akin to unplugging your Pentium CPU everytime you left your room. How long would it be before those pins got damaged?
It would be far easier to hide a starter interupt switch somewhere, like behind the ashtray .

I take key switches like this sample:
http://www.helmarparts.com/product_p/20151-00.htm

and interupt the starter circuit at:
Clutch override switch (Manual Transmissions) or
Neutral safety Switch (Automatics)

sounds like a good setup but i dont really understand how that works or where to even start. How do i tap into the starter circuit to utilize the clutch override switch or is it the other way around.

In effect, you're putting a lockable on/off switch into your starter circuit. The safest way to dio this is to interupt the low amp circuit which triggers the starter solenoid. The easiest place to do this is at either pertinant location I mentioned earlier.

Picture the switch with two really long 14 gauge wires connected to it.
One end of each are attached afixed to the switch, the other ends are just... out there.

Pick your target (Manual Transmission as an example), the clutch override switch. Pick the wire which connects to the switch which is energized by the Ignition switch start position (test light or multimeter required).

Giving yourself enough room (slack), cut this wire, strip back a length of insulation and attach one wire from the switch to one end of the cut wire, and attach the other wire to the other end of the cut wire.

Make sure that you have tight connections and that they are properly insulated. I soulder them and use heat shrink tubing.

Mount the switch anywhere you can think of.
