Defect: On certain sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and sport utility vehicles, electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. Worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the ignition switch. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began July 12, 2002. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or Acura at 1-800-382-2238.
good info.. thanks again..

From a honda technician (friend of mine):
Make sure to get your car in for this soon if you havent done so yet. The ignition switch may spark or (worst case scenario) catch fire. Lots have come back already. He said it takes about an hour depending on work load.

Honda's recall tops 2.5 million vehicles in the world
TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's second largest car maker Honda Motor Co. Ltd. said its planned recall of passenger cars due to a faulty ignition switch is expected to top 2.5 million vehicles worldwide.
The company said it recently discovered it must recall an extra 230,000 vehicles in Asia and other regions to change defective parts of the ignition switch, which may cause engines to stall.
The cars, including popular models such as the Prelude and Odyssey, were produced between 1996 and December 1999 and shipped mainly from Japan.
The announcement came four days after Honda told the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport it would recall 743,417 vehicles sold in Japan, the fourth largest number reported at one time since the authority launched the recall system here in 1969.
Separately in the United States, American Honda announced it would recall about 1.34 million of certain Honda and Acura models sold in North America.
Honda now plans to recall 190,000 cars in Canada, 20,000 in Australia and 50,000 in Britain.
"The recall in the world would total 2.57 million," a spokeswoman said.
Electrical contacts in the ignition switch are too high, meaning the car could stop working in the worst case scenario, Honda said.
Subject to the recall in Japan are 13 models manufactured between August 1996 and December 1999.
American Honda said its recall involves certain 1997 to 2000 models of brands such as the Honda Accord, Civic, and Acura TL sedans.

This sucks. If my car is involved in the recall, I don't think they would think to highly of the swap. Do you think they will still perform the work even though I have a swap? Or does the swap void all recalls whether or not it pertains to the engine? I know I don't have any warranty for sure.
