Default Hard to get into gear, automatic tranny

sup folks,
i have a 90 accord ex, automatic tranny, i have a problem that could be related to not enought tranny fluid but not sure. This morning it happened the second time and first time the other night, i got in the car, cranked it, went to push the button on the shifter in so i could put it into a gear, and the button didn't feel like it went in all the way and it was stuck in Park, is this a mechanism in the shifter itself? i let the car run a min, checked tranny fluid (i was told on automatics you check it while running) that didn't sound right to me to begin with but i trusted the person whom told me this. Anyhow it looked fine i guess, got back in the car, went into gear fine, anyone know what the problem could be? it shift fine while driving.

I posted to this just a little while ago, what happened, anyways, to make it a short one now, there is a relay and mechanical locking mechanism in the shifter assy, replace it or remove it. It also acts as a child safety feature so beware.

Check that your brake lights work.
The shifter lock mechanism Duane was speaking of consists of a lock solenoid mounted in the Shifter mechanism. It is controlled by a dual action (Single throw/double pole) switch mounted on the Brake Pedal hanger which not only controls the brake lights, but signals the shift lock solenoid to release when the brake pedal is applied.
The switch may have either failed or has become mis-adjusted.

quite possible, if its something as simple as that, should be an easy fix,... just hope it doesn't get stuck in a position, thats my main concern

They're pretty easy to address; unless you're old and decrepid like some former wrench heads I know The "Dash Diving" gets me every time - ouch!

Check the trans fluid level with the engine OFF; it's not a freaking GM
