96 accord window switch
as we call know the master switch on these accords are known for going out, my wifes finally took a crap yesterday, my price from honda brand new is 146.00 but it comes with the trim, and mirror switch as well, i live 10 min from honda parts connection and they did not have any in stock, my question is...
is it possible to run an aftermarket switch? inside the honda switch are small contactors and normally when they go bad there is a build up from a spark caused by closing the contactor (hitting the switch) over time the spark causes metal fragments to collect and when there is not enough surface area for the electricity to pass thru, the small contactors weld themselvs together shorting out that switch. i have seen it 1000's of times on forklifts i have worked on, a temp fix is to take it apart, file the contactors down and put it back in, or buy a new switch for 140+$ im going tomorrow to look at some 4 prong switches, on the master switch there is 4 wires, a positive, negative, up command and down command that control the drivers side window, the switch should be no more than 10-15$ and the wires can be traced from the window motor, i plan on using a spring loaded toggle switch, simimlar to the one in the master switch, not sure where i will be putting it as my wife is not home yet for me to ponder, in the end this is going to be a cheap fix, you wont have to remove the door panel and it will cost you 20$ tops if u dont have solder, heat shrink a switch and some sire terminals. i will take pictures of this fa-na-gel-ing and post them up tomorrow and let everyone know how it goes!!!
