Hello all!
I was looking on another site and I came across a DIY on installing inside brake lights on Civic hatch's. Here's the link if you don't know what I'm talking about. http://civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=1465
I really wanted to do this because I will be getting a duckbill shortly without a third brake light. So I figure any other extra brake lights would help.
Well, I went out to my car to see where everything was and see how much work it would be, and I found existing bulbs in that spot. I had someone press the brakes to see if they let up or did anything and they didn't. The bulbs don't look blown either. So now I'm wondering, instead of adding more ghetto wire and what not is there a way that I can just get those existing bulbs to work? Here are some pictures so you know what I mean. If I'm leaving any vital information out just let me know. Thanks for any help!

those lights are running lights. they are supposed to light up when you turn the lights on. i dont know if its possible to splice them into the brake lights. i would use quick splice connectors to make it a little cleaner looking and you wouldnt have to cut and splice and wires(more reliable in my opinion)

I'm not familiar with quick splice connectors, how do they work?
Quick splices/Scotch locks are the most useless unreliable piece of **** I ever had the displeasure of working with. They cut halfway through the wire severly weakening it, often times the wire will break off unless its in an enviroment where it wont get disturbed. Maybe i'm a little biased because I live in an area where we use a ton of salt on the roads, scotch locks turn green inside and the wire literally rots off in a matter of months. Solder and shrink tubing is where its at if you want something to last, if you can't solder at least use perma-seal butt connectors that come with shrink tubing on them.

^Wow, thanks for the warning. I'm thinking if I had to add any wiring I will be soldering.
But, does anyone know if the inner light on the coupes and sedans light up for the brakes???

Weird, it works for me. Maybe you have to be a member. What does it say when you click the link?
I wonder then, if I could just use the set up they use. Or for that matter what exactly is different between the two.

Heres another link to a different, or possibly the same write up. http://civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=1465

So I'm thinking the cleaner and better way to do this and keep the running lights, would be to somehow use the harness or set-up off a coupe or sedan.
I'll ask again, does anyone know the difference?
