Default correct ecu for h23a jdm vtec

k so yea i gotta blue top h23a vtec motor. The car currently has a p-14 ecu in it. is this the right ecu for the h23a auto? The reason i ask is, the heads have a p-13 code stamped on them and i didnt know if there was any correlation between the two. And if the p-14 ecu is indeed the correct ecu, where can i find chips for this thing. So far ive only found chips on ebay, and im not nearly stupid enough to buy one of those. Not only chips, I cant find hardly anthing aftemarket for these motors. only the h23a1 non vtec edition. If anyone knows a reliable source where i can find cams, cam gears, and engine internals for the h23a vtec, please let me know. Ive burned the searched engines up for two nights to no avail. thanks.

Since its vtec i believe many of the parts for the h22 are compatible for the h23 vtec. Im not sure if you are running the right ecu or not. Please do not buy chips of ebay! your best bet is to contact an engine supplier and check if they have ecus laying around for your motor. Im not sure if the one you have is making your motor run to its full potential. H motors online might have one . I live in l.a. and theres tons on suppliers as well. I will also recommend finding out WHAT is the right ecu for your motor first then go from there.

The h23vtec hwad and the h22 head might be the same, i believe if you want to buy after market cams and all the goodies you can purchase them for an h22.

I also have that motor. No p14 is wrong ecu! So is the p13. The correct ecu is the PCF ecu, some say the p5p ecu from obd2 h22 sh wil work well. I however am running a chipped
p28 from speedfactoryracing.net. They have worked with these cars and the tune seems good. You can also call up phearables.net and they have chipped ecus also their tune held with b16s and stuff. I have puled slowly on a b20vtec hatch with that tune. Problem with chip ecu is your gonna have to get a conversion harness. the internals as you say are p13 stamped. only difference in h23 vtec and h22 is the stroke is longer so crank and rods are differnent. Cams, gears, and such You can use h22s( call a tuner shop before you take my world 100% im only 80% positive h22 will work. As far as pistons and such, you can make anything work I mean there are ppl that put h23 cranks in a h22 to stress relieve it and you can work with rods and pistons as ppl stroke their engines out. DO NOT USE EBAY CHIPS!!!

shouldn't you buy an ecu you can socket and tune properly? If you plan on "building" it anyway, I'd get that and have it tuned rather than buying a chip. Chips in general are junk. You'd honestly be better off making your own maps with crome free.

thanks for the feedback guys. ill try some of the sites mentioned and ask a few questions. I was under the impression that the p-14 was the wrong ecu and turns out i might be right about that. Ive heard the same about the h22 heads and such i just wasnt 100% on anything, and didnt wanna waste a couple hundred for mods i cant even use. Dont worry bout me buyin the ebay chips, i know better than that crap lol. i dont trust ebay what so ever.

Ebay can be your friend and your worst enemy. I sell through ebay all the time. I sell collectibles through there. Just shop from trustworthy individuals. And always remember "you get what you pay for"

p14 is for the h23 non-vtec motor. get a p13 if you need something just to get you by. its obd1 and will run the h23 vtec.

the ecu for that motor is going to be obd2. which means you need a conversion harness and such.
