Default powdercoatiing oven = batch oven?

what type of oven is needed to cure powdercoating?

temperatures won't exceed 400 degrees, so that doesn't seem to be an issue.

what's stopping anyone from building a big electric hotbox?

Any type of oven would do. Even your own home oven would do lol.

Any home stove/oven will do the job. Craigs list or the pennysaver for cheap ones. heck, you can probably just go pick one up from the dump for free. A lot of people just chuck the old one when they remodel.

i've got an oven the size of a smal closet, it's nice & works well. I could probably take some pix of it if your interested. (home grown unit)

inside dimensiones are like 3ft x 3ft x 8ft tall

it's fire insulated so that that it's cool to the touch on the outside while it's running, it's got a digital display for temp readout & just a small control pannel hanging off the side.

I bought a used home type electric oven (don't use gas) for $20. I put casters on it and a table top on it and it rolls out of the way when I am not powder coating. Craigslist often has ovens for free, as people just want the old one to go away when they replace it.

i use one i got off craigs list for 50.00 i do valve covers, motor cycle parts, and i can even do 15" rims. this spring ill probably make a new oven, id like to make a 3'x3'x'3 hot box just for doing wheels and smaller parts. my uncle owns a PC shop here as well, and has a huge oven big enough for tube chassis etc. i would just do big parts there

Why do you need it to hold pressure? You don't have to bake powdercoat under pressure do you?

subscribed. has anyone else ever noticed that all of things that you though were unobtainable when you first started modifying cars always turn out to be much simpler than you thought?

this thread agrees with me. lol.

it would be nice to have an oven for powder coating and for vacuum bagging carbon fiber in one unit

is there any kind of silicone hose or something that could be used around the opening for a seal that wouldn't melt up to 500*

McMaster-Carr has seals like this one:

Which are available in Viton and advertised at -20 - 450 F.

Might be worth looking into.

Yes. For insulate you can use Rigid Fiberglass insulation or Mineral Wool Insulation.

I think so. Give them a call first. If not, you can order them online.

McMaster-Carr to the rescue yet again.

They have the mineral wool insulation in "semi-rigid" sheets as well as fiberglass insulation.

Once you go there, do a search for "High-Temperature Sheeting". It's on the same catalog page as the fiberglass stuff and has a max temperature of 1000 degrees F.
