I have a 00 civic hatchback and the hatch has a dent on it.Well i have a 96-98 door hatch in my garage but i cant find any info about this swap.I know they are different cus the 00 has a latch to open the door and the 96-98 just has the key. If any body knows anything in how to or any info please post it.Thanx.

 

There was a thread about this. They said the latching mechanisms were different because of the interior lever for 96-97 and hatch lever for 98-00. I can't remember if that guy was able to fit the hatch or not, but leaning towards he couldn't.

 

Couldn't you just switch lever on the opposing hatch?

 

I can do that but i have to cut a **** fot the latch.Thats why im asking if there's any other way around that or a better way to do it.

 

I think the other guy was doing the opposite swap. I Googled like crazy trying to find that other thread, but no luck. I looked for "hatch", "latch", "handle" and "cut". I also included my name a few times because I could have sworn I had posted in it.

Someone on here did that swap before. The way he described it put it as way too much work. You have to cut and you have to replace the latch IIRC.

 

I know.I have been lookin for something for the past couple of days with out a luck.Oh well i guess im gonna have to go fo it and see how that goes.If i end up doin it, ill post a how to since there's nothing about this topic.Thanx anyways.

 

I found this in another forum:

"you need the cable and lever along with the latch/release . you need to cut the hoop piece off of the 96-98 and weld it onto the 99-00 and then cut and weld the release to the side of the 99-00, then route the cable and cut the sheet metal and plastic to fit the new release.


so after all of that I sugest fixing the dent"
