which sand paper to sand clear coat for paint
im planning on painting my eg in the next few months. ive read the sticky and some other articles but unsure about the sanding aspect. my car still has pretty nice paint but im putting a new door skin and bumpers on so i need to paint the whole thing.
when it comes to sanding what grit do i start with to get through the clear coat and what grit should i be ending with before the primer? thank you.

Depends on what you do for the bodywork wise to put primer over. Finish the body work off with atleast 180-220. Saves on the amount of primer you actually have to use. After the primer is dry and you can sand that then use 400-500 to block it down and if you are going to base the whole car then use a 600-800 on the unprimerd areas.
I would not primer over 220. if you're trying to primer over something that coarse i would use some surfacer. regular primer will not "fill" those sandscratches. but before you lay your color down i would have the whole car in 600
sand the car with 400-500 grit .. where you doesn't need any primer ..
the area you'll need to prime , you sand with 180 and a little 220 to be sure
3 good coats of primer .. and block it down with 320 or 400
finish with 500
and you're ready for paint
