Default my poor civic :'(

Hey guys, I had a 2001 DX for since fall of 06. That s.o.b. ran like a kitten until last summer when some how, my auto tranny just died on me on the highway. Had to get a new tranny and a bunch of other crap that went wrong with its since that happened. Then i got it moving again, and in April of 08, some dumbass in a 94 Chevy Jimmy truck decided to slam on his brakes ultra hard because his cellphone fell on the floor, causing me to slam right into his back. This caused the radiator to push back and the front to crinkle like an empty can of Pepsi. Thank god nothing else happened to it, but of course I was at fault because I hit from the back and well, you know how that goes :-\ Anyway, me and my dad bought a new hood for the car, replaced the old one and hammered the crippled body back to shape(somewhat) so i could use to get to work and the latter. Then in august, I started to hear this wierd sound coming from the engine. Did an oil change and that seemed to have fixed it for a while. Then again i started to hear it, my dad took my car to his "trusted" mechanic who only screwed it up even more saying that it was jsut an oil change.
The day i took the car out of the mechanic and drove to work it seemed ok. Later on i started to hear a louder clunking sound when I accelerated, (mind you, no CEL had come on at all). Eventually it got louder and the car started to get sluggish. I tried to get to the mechanic as fast as i could but as I came over a hill trying to actually climb it, i heard BOOM from under the hood and a cloud of smoke and dust came out of my car. The engine shut off and that as they say, was that. Apperently the dumbasses at my father's mechanic forgot to do something, and boom, there went my engine. One of my piston rods flew thru the oil pan and well...iuno wat else to say more than these guys suck at fixing cars

I know this is a long story but my point is finally going to be made xD

I dont trust the bastards that my father calls "mechanics" and they are SERIOUSLY overpriced, asking for 4000+ and more just for the a new d17a1 engine. Yea...right.

I was thinking of scrapping that engine and putting a beefier motor and tranny. My point is, what can i do? What fits inside of a 2001 DX chassis and is well worth it? I DONT wanna put the same d17 back in there w/ an auto tranny. I was thinking more along the lines of a k20 w/ manual tranny and have someone put it in for me.

Any help would be appretiated. Thanks!

yo manm, sorry about your ride... When your looking into a K20/K24 swap, realize that even though K20's are badass, and I want one too... But in reality, you are gona spend upwards of 6000 to get it done right... My advice would be to either do the K24 swap with K20 tranny, for now, and look at performance mods later... The reason I say this, is because the k24 is generally cheaper than any k20's you find... But before you do it, you need to seriously look into what you would be getting in to... You are gona do some major modding before you get that in correctly... Also on that note, going from auto to manual your going to need some other things on top of the normal Kswap stuff... You need pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, ecu, cables, and some more stuff, if you search, Ive made a couple threads regarding em2 auto to manual swaps, and there are many things out there supporting Kswaps into our cars, all of the stuff pertaining to our car, is located at the top of the thread labled FAQ, Good luck man...

to me, it sounds like your car is all beat up...it's also a DX trim so it doesn't have many options...

IMO, if you want a K series engine, get rid of the civic and buy an RSX-S...the cost of a K-Swap would be around the same price as just buying a used RSX

btw, don't pay $4k to replace the stock engine...you can buy a used D17 for less than $500.
