oki so i have a gsr block with si head in my car and i got ahold of a ITR intake cam but with no cam gear on it. so my question is, can i use the b16 cam gear on the itr and just re-time it. or will i need to change out cam gears for something else? im pretty sure they'd fit right up no problem but i just want someone to re-assure me! any help is greatly appreciated!

 

also will i be alright with stock internals?(head wise)

 

cam gears are the same for all b series vtec head

your gonna use your the original intake cam on the exhaust side right?

you head to piston clearance should be fine considering your using oem pistons. if you using after market high compression pistons you should check clearance be4 running it

will i dont know much but i have been researching too. because i want to get ctr cams in my b16 motor i did the same as you ask in HT. some people say its okay. but not sure. and also do you think about changing the values and retainers. if you dont only rev stock or else your motor blows. pistons dont need to be up.

you'll be fine. and he said put the stock intake cam on the exhaust side cause the duration is longer(=more power), and the stock intake for a gsr is the same as the stock exhaust for a type r.

the only problem i see with putting the stock gsr cam on the exhaust side, is that the exhaust side valves are not dual(dual valve springs). i can see as that might give you a problem. higher chance of valve float.

 

i didnt realize you could put an intake cam on the exhaust side? wouldn't that hit the cam seal? i actually have a b16 head so i had b16 cams. would i benefit from putting my b16 intake cam on the exhaust side? anyone tried this yet?



on another note i got the cam in the mail this morning so i decided to throw it on! it went on like normal no problems putting it on. when i timed it and tried to start i did have trouble starting at first but after giving it some gas it turned on and ran great. i drove it around and it is definately more powerful specially in low end and mid range. this is all from the butt dyno but it does run alot crisper and stronger motor sounds deeper too. well thanks for the help on this. now to look into the intake cam on exhaust side
