hey so i have a 91 hatchback that im painting in my garage, im not going all out with it. i just sanded it down and cleaned it with mineral spirits. i hav ea husky 30 gallon compressor and the paint gun that comes with it. im also using dupli color car paint. i tried my first coat and it came out pretty thick. and went through a half quart without even finishing the car. what psi should i set it at. the can says like 30-40. so is it the paint gun because its not gravity fed or the paint or the pressure. probably all of the above
are you reducing the paint the correct ratio ? get something you can spray like cardboard or something and set your gun up correctly before you go to the car. try turning your pressure up on the siphon feed gun. if you have runs in your basecoat you might as well just stop IMO.
it is premixed however we used some of the "champ white" color to paint my delsol and we add to thin it because it seriously wouldnt screen out it was like chalk lol, but the paint came out pretty good!!

alright im picking up more paint today. im going to try different psi's on cardboard and see how it turns out.the paint on the car didn't come out as bad as i thought it would. i did good prep work so we'll see when i finished up the first coat and wet sand and then ill take some pictures. about the mixing, ya its supposed to be premixed but i might try to thin it and see how it works. what psi do u guys usually run at. the paint says 30-40

so i decided to get a new gun. nothing special but better than the one that came with the gun. i also got some more paint and wet sanded the paint that i put on before.
Let me 3rd that...why are you sanding the basecoat? Leave it alone and clear it making sure you don't arc. Meaning keep the gun as paralell to the car as possible with each pass, and overlap current pass with previous. Most people do 2-3 base and 3 clear, I did 5 on my si, after clearing I'd allow ATLEAST 48 hrs to cure, then use 1500-2000 grit wet or dry sand paper and wet sand the clear evenly, carefully buff with buffing compund(I prefer 3M compund and finish up with 3M machine glaze) just be careful when buffing since the clear hasn't 100% cured and will come off very easily. I hope this helps man, and do post some pics for us to see. Good luck!
Oh and for psi, I'd use around 40 for clear with an hvlp gravity fed gun, and if you haven't done so, get an inline air dryer so you don't get any moisture in your clear, boy does that make a damn mess! Anyways, again, good luck!
Good word of advice from FearTheH. Never ever spray without some type of inline filter or air drying system. You will end up shooting out droplets of water in your finish.
