Default smells like burning metal when downshifting

95 civic DX all stock

when i downshift it smells like burning metal, like gas is burning in the exhaust manifold. which i already had to replace because it got stuck to the old O2 sensor. (overheated maybe?) i changed out all the injectors and it idles fine now (was surging) but still has the smell.

checked the TPS, it reads 0.46-0.47 at closed and 4.6 at WOT. i read that its suposed to be 0.5 closed with a variance of 0.02. does this means its bad? needs to be adjusted or fine? the volts go up normally all the way, no weird jumps or dead spots.

i was getting an o2 code whenever i downshifted, so i changed it. now i have no codes and spark plugs look fine.

what could cause this?

how hard are you down shifting? is it possible your slipping the clutch when downshifting?, how is your exhaust? any leaks?

It happens at 2000 rpm in 5th gear or any other speed, I don't think its the clutch. Yes, the exhaust has some leaks but it still shouldn't smell like burning metal should it? I don't have a cat.

I'm not too sure, seeing you only smell it after downshifting.

the pan drips a lil bit every now and then, but i dont know why it would only smell when downshifting. i thought it was a bad injector but i changed em, so i have no idea.

and the clutch isnt slipping... not when cruzing at 35 in 5th gear, theres not enough torque to make it slip, plus i think i would notice, i have an ex cluster with tach.

Pull your tranny out and check your clutch, then tell us you don't think its your clutch.

i just wanna make sure you guys know that it does this even when almost no torque is on the clutch. i can cruise at 35 in 5th gear which it like 1.5K rpm and just take my foot off the gas and i smell it.

it happens just when cruising and taking my foot off the gas, (not using the clutch at all) so i dont think the clutch has anything to do with it. but i can see what your saying about the exhaust. i do have a test pipe on there and missing the upper trans mount. maybe its just hot exhaust im smelling and its normal? but this happened when the motor was in my old hatch too, and it had a cat and all the mounts. so im still stumped. i will be changing the clutch in a few weeks for those of you that think thats it.

today i started noticing hesitation under acceleration, it feels almost like the spark timing is jumping around, so im gonna change out the ICM and see what happens.
