Icon2 d16y8 problem

i have a 2000 ex, im not sure what i did but my motors making a knocking noise, and i went to a bunch of places like 2step and other shops, they said i can drive around with the knock for a while if i dont go crazy with the car, but i was driving it a few days ago and everytime i went to stop it just died, im wondering if anyone could help me out and tell me what might be the problem? and my other question is if i get any d series block can i use it with my d16y8 head with no problems? or should i just get a whole new motor? i know the answer to the last question but i still wana try and save my sohc, and im really strapped on cash. thanks for the help.

A D16Y7 block is going to be the easiest.
