Icon3 PLEASE HELP! my baby died on me!!!!

I was driving tonight and this guy wanted to race, so we both took off from a stop sign and when i floored my gas it took off normal but then my engine slightly jerked and died on me!
its a 96 civic ex with a d16y8 engine, stock other than DC headers, short ram intake and exhaust.
i checked the oil, anti-freeze, the belts, spark plugs and they were all good.
I rolled my car next to a curve so i can try to fix it but no luck. 3 hours later a tow truck came and took my baby home.

i really dont know what the problem can be. im THINKING maybe the fuel pump but im not 100%sure.

PLEASE H-T! HELP ME!

The wires on the coil, in your distributor, could have come lose also. Check that out, make sure they are the conections are on and tight.

Well in the high RPMs (which I assume you were in because you were flooring it), an old belt is more prone to slipping or snapping. How old is the belt?

How many miles are on the car then? If you don't know if it was ever changed you have to assume it hasn't been.

Take off the valve cover and look underneath the upper timing cover to see if the belt has snapped. If it hasn't snapped, set the cam to top dead center and see if the pulley is at top dead center. If you can't get both of them at TDC at the same time, the belt most likely slipped. If it slipped it must have slipped a lot, because slipping one tooth would not cause the car to not run.

you sound like an idiot. just my first impression. take your car to a professional, i bet they can tell you the problem. then you pay out the *** and learn a lesson. honestly i'm glad your **** broke. DON'T race on the street, it gives responsible civic owners like me a bad name.

The pulley is the big round disc sticking out of the driver's side of the block, that all the drive belts are on.

To set the cam to TDC you take out the spark plugs and turn the crank pulley using its bolt and a socket wrench until the UP mark on the side of the cam gear is straight up and the two lines on the cam gear are aligned with the top of the head. To do this you will need to remove the valve cover and upper timing belt cover.

I don't know how to check to see if the crank pulley is at TDC. The only way I know how to check that is by taking the pulley off and using the marks on the oil pump and block. You'll have to ask someone else about that, because i'm sure that you aren't getting that crank pulley off without a really powerful impact wrench or a breaker bar and pulley holder tool.

First make sure the timing belt is even intact.
