Default '97 usdm itr MOD friendly?

Hello fellows,

ive been looking at a few itrs and was wondering if there is any significant differences in the '97 itr and the '98's and ^. to be honest i didnt even know they made usdm '97 itr :/. The body looks a bit different but was wondering if the engine/exhaust and stuff is the same to modify with the usual stuff (headers/CAI/exhaust/or turbo :/)

any recommendations/help is appreciated.

Nothing significantly different between any years of ITR to make one more mod friendly than the other.

But I do recommend that if you get one, you leave it stock for a while. People are too quick to bolt parts on the ITR, and some of them make it worse.

You interested in a 2000 in the Ohio area?

I wouldn't turbo an ITR either, but, to each their own.

ok yea, i thought so. there is probably only a few hundred left with decent titles i can see why some people wouldnt want to molest them.

but i dont think i could turbo an R either.

I couldnt see there being much more than 225 left with clean titles... If you want to modify a 97 go ahead. But a clean title clean car 97 with decently low miles is VERY hard to find.

To answer your question about differences between the 97's and 98 00 01's they are very minor. Interior is slightly different no CF, brakes are slightly different, and the body styling.

Do your research on what year will be best for you and wait for one to come up. GL

Edit: Dont be scared of theft recoveries, they can be a great deal and a fun project.

97-98 cams have 3 deg less duration... basically not noticeable

97 is obviously the rarest, ~200 w/ clean titles according to carfax only 320 ever brought into the US
98 there was ~1002 brought in.

The 97 has the 94-97 front end with the ITR front lip
-Has no rear windshield wiper
-Has a slightly different rear caliper bracket (brakes are the same though)

Overall, everything is is pretty much the same though.

I would buy the ITR you like based on style and color. Some people dont like the 98+ front end while others dont like the 97 front end. Some people love CW, others prefer FBP/NBP, or PY.

ever since the recent switch to new servers/hosts or whatever, the many of the OGs and the comedians have gone. *sigh*

I'd prefer the 97 over the 98+ not only because it rare but it looks more nice, clean & simpler than the 98+ ITR's. That's just my opinion & yes I would not also turbo an R, ALL MOTOR BABY TYPE R TO IT'S TRUEST!

hmm ok. how does this relate to the power the vtec puts out. if the valve is kept open longer would that necessarily mean difference in power or more power if its open longer??
