Extra P06 chipped and vtec converted, some ??'s
The car I just traded for came with a spare ECU. I've found it to be a P06 thats been chiped and converted to vtec. Is there anyway to tell what kind of a tune is on the chip? Or to tell if the chip is reburnable? The chip says ATMEL AT27C256R 45PI 0542. I would just throw it in and check how it workd but I have a '99 Civic with a Civic Si B16 swap soIm running 0BD-2 and the jumper harnes that was included was a mak shift one thats falling apart. I dont know if I should sell it or keep it for some future tuning. Or would I be better off tuning with the Si ECU?
1. Your obd2 civic si ecu can't be tuned.
2. That chip is not re-burnable.
3. Get rid of that POS harness & get a quality obd2b to obd1 harness.
4. You will need an eprom chip burner & the proper software to read whats on the chip, even then you will probably not know what you are looking at :-p
5. Buy a 28 pin eprom chip basemap from a reputable vendor & throw it in the ecu.

If its mostly stock, its really a waste of time. Chances are a non-name chip will hurt gas milage a lot, and not provide much, if any, extra power. A stock motor should use a stock ecu - there is virtually nothing to be gained otherwise.
Keep the P06 and run the ECU you have in your car until you have a better knowledge of what your workign with. Over time do some reaserach and learn everythign you can about ECUs, Tuning software & the hardware required to tune. It's not as complicated as it seems if you take your time and research everthing involved. If you come across something you are unsure of, research it as well.
It's a lot easier to figure out what to do after you figure out how the PGMFI system works in your car for starters.

Not sure what your asking? The EPROM chips can be ether VTEC or Non VTEC. It's the ECU that is used that determines VTEC or Non VTEC. The software used to tune the ECU can enable or disable it on VTEC ECUs.
If your looking for a miracle Non VTEC Hp chip that you just plug into your ECU. Your not going to find one that is reliable. You need a Honda ECU that can be altered (chipped) in order to use a tunable chip.
