Default Offcial emissions failure thread!!(h22a)

so im pretty sure theres a ton of us but i want to make a thread about it to help each other out when there time is up....

whos had problems having JDM h22a's passing there state emissions test?

how bad did you fail? (specifics if possible)

and what did you do to finaly get it to pass?

ill start it off..

State Standerd HC(Hydrocarbons)=220 PPM , State Standerd CO(Carbon Monoxide)=1.20PCT

Inspection Readings for HC=389PPM , Inspection Readings for CO=1.34PCT

Inspection Result = FAIL , Inspection Result= FAIL

Over all= FAIL

so far iv replaced the PVC with brand new OEM, OEM IACV, adjusted idle to a proper idle (no more surge) and still yet to pass.

due back jan 7th and by then will replace the catalytic converter with new OEM converter and brand new O2 sensor and then will hopfuly have a passing result.. (or a waver for spending over 750 on emission related repairs, (unsure of YOUR states requirements))

instead of throwing money at parts why not go to an authorized smog repair facility?? (BTW in Cali the waiver is 450 but the intial 450 must be spent in a certified smog repair facility not by a do-it-yourselfer...) HC's are a result of unburned fuel. You may have leaking injectors or simply need a tune-up...

b.c i dont want to pay some one to look at my #s and trouble shoot, when if some one can give info like "HCs are a result of unburned fuel" when insted of 80 an hr i just found that out for free,

also my idle was surging and when it wasent it was way to high so all the idle adjustments/ iacv and pcv were needed to correct that.. and happens to qualify for "emission related repairs" so that was kinda like double dipping, but in doing this my #s droped dramaticly 2 so that was deff part of my emission problem,

thanks for in the info though. anyone else, keep it coming! help every one with emission problems in the H-T community!

quote for the the EPA.GOV

"Carbon monoxide forms when carbon in fuel doesn't burn completely (incomplete combustion)"

and

" Hydrocarbon emissions result from incomplete fuel combustion and from fuel evaporation. "

so it looks like both are from "unburned fuel" witch really sucks sence h22 suposably run rich from the factory :/

and for all you obd2 guys...

"Nitrogen oxides form when fuel burns at high temperatures, such as in motor vehicle engines"
