Default cleaning up a '99 Si

anyone got any tips for cleaning up a show car? The goal is to take it back close to stock as i can.

today I'm replacing the aftermarket body kit w/ stock bumpers/side skirts. i'm also removing the shaved doors and putting regular ones on. the idea is that on monday it can be ready to be repainted black.

but I'm more concerned about the interior. the dash and ceiling were re-streched in white vinyl. the bottom half of the dash (top of glove box and below) were painted black. I want them back to grey. if i use paint remover, will it harm the original color after it eats through the black paint? the guy before me only used a can of spray paint so it's fairly easy to chip off.

I'll attach some pictures and tell me what you guys think. Keep in mind I'm mostly the interior I'm weary of messing with. The outside/body of the car are almost finished being fixed.

I've already removed the diamond plating too.

but anyways it was a little bit lighter then stock but it turned out looking real good.

brake cleaner? i just don't want to damage what's underneath the spray paint. but if it's safe on the dye honda uses for their parts then i'll do it.

i think i'll leave alone what's white. the white and grey shouldn't be a terrible match.

that or take a stiff bristled toothbrush and soap to it. and white and gray would look horrendous.

I'd replace the door panels, dash, vents, climate control bezel, cluster bezel, etc.

It's not like the parts will be hard to find.

The dash and vents can be from any '96-'00 Civic that had a dark gray (TYPE K) interior. That means it will have to be a coupe or hatch.

The cluster bezel can be from any '96-'00 Civic. Body and trim doesn't matter.

The doors can be from any '96-'00 Civic EX coupe with a dark gray interior or any Si coupe (all have dark gray).

The climate control bezel can be from any '99-'00 Civic. Body and trim doesn't matter.

Are those aftermarket tweeters or did someone put sedan tweeters in the doors? I see the standard EX/Si coupe tweeters on the inside of the mirrors.

if I change the climate control bezel will i still retain the amber back lighting?

i've already got the new doors on today w/ panels.

the only issue i'm worried about w/ spraying it again is someone's shoes or something like chipping it...yes those WERE extra tweeters in the doorpanels. It HAD two sets of tweeters until today.

Are the stock 99-00 Sis carpeted on the ceiling?? how hard would it to be to get the white vinyl off and re-done in the stock manner? because i doubt the stock carpet or w/e is underneath the vinyl still...

good news is the motor is bone stock aside from exhaust (which sounds SOO good, a very thick sound with NO vibrations) and intake.

haha well this car's looks got it a spot in 2Fast2Furious and 3 other magazines. Plus the kid gave me all the trophies it won in south FL...

honestly i wanted a black Si from the start, but he let it go for a fair price considering all the things I wanted to have done to the car. I have access to a few body shops through my father, and i get good labor rates and parts deals. so it's worth it. It had 85k on it when I bought it. He also gave me another set of rims that I sold for a good bit.

So really, i know it sounds like a lot, but I'm not coming out of pocket over the value of the car. I'm pretty excited about getting it painted next week. I can't wait to see it roll out of the spray booth.

The bezel is just the black surrounding piece. It does not include the radio, climate control or anything else. All '99-'00 Si models had the amber lighting, but you can change the color on other models.

All '96-'00 Civics have cloth headliners. Any '98-'00 Civic EX coupe or Si coupe will have the exact same headliner. '96-'97 will be the same besides no hole for the map light.
