Icon2 Starter Question..!

i have a d15b7 in my eg with a y5 manual tranny.
and i need a starter. some guy told me automatic and manual starters are the same. so my questions are..

1-should i use an EK starter? since the y5 comes from a d16(I THINK)
2- is that true auto and manual starters are the same?

thanks!

I think they should be the same BUT I just looked up starters for both the D15B7 and D16Y5 (96-00 Civic HX VTEC-E) and all of the part numbers were different. The MT starter for the Y5 is part number 06314-P2C-305RM. But I would go to the junkyard and grab an automatic starter off of a 92-95 and see if it works.

Both EG and EK bolt up to the bellhousing.

No. They're not even close to being the same, although I can't remember exactly what was different.

the y5, y7, y8 all use the same starter on the manual trannys, and also the manual and auto use different starters, iirc the auto is a bit longer we replaced one on my friends 95 lx and the guy at autozone gave us the wrong one and had to go back and get a manual one cause it was shorter. But as for the d15b7-d16y5 good luck.

So it sounds like

1: You definitely need to use a 96-00 MT starter
2: AT starters are different and cannot be used on your MT tranny.
